The one I received was 6-bolt.

There is a £10 off code somewhere if you spend £50.

£40 is ridiculous when a 350 hub alone is £60.

True, but that's a 370 hub in that wheel I'm pretty sure.

Or, great value when a xm481 rim is 80 quid on its own 😉

Yup, it's the 370 OEM hub, still a ridiculously good wheel for £40.

Great timely PSA op! I'm looking at building some wheels up. Was looking at a pro4/xm481 build, but as above, the rims are £71 each alone!
What's the difference between 350+370 front hub then? Can't be much, I mean a front hub is as simple as it gets! Weight,? Anyone got a link for info please on these? I'm trying to build light and was going to go 28h on front, but at this price, I'm tempted.
Oh, and are we sure these are xm481 rims? Thanks

Is it really a xm481 rim?

Are DT's boost hubs actually wider or just longer end cappage ?

I believe 370 hubs are novatec or similar so quite a bit different to 350, tho still not necessarily bad, especially on the front

I suspect the rim is probably a M502, a good rim but not an XM481.

I've been happily running 370 hubs for a couple of years with no issues at all, still on original bearings too.

Decent wheel for 40 quid, even if it is M502 on a 370.

Edit closer look at the picture and it's not an eyeleted rim, which the M502 is.

I don't know if that hub will take my DT torque caps ?

I’m so glad that’s 27.5. Was going to get really annoyed as I spent a fair bit more than that on a 29er 30mm boost front wheel yesterday...

With that designation it won't be a M502, it'll be a basic pinned rim that isn't available separately.

1700's use the sleeved and eyeletted M502 level rim, 1501's use the XM481 welded and PHR system top end rims.

The old MTB 1800 and 1900's used a basic pinned rim, the new 1900's have a nicer, lighter Sleeved rim similar to the 1700's, with the main difference now being that the 1700's have 350 ratchet hubs and the 1900's have 3-pawl 370s.

Main difference between 370 and 350 hubs is the ratchet system, reduced weight and a slight bearing sealing upgrade. You can upgrade the front to 240 level bearings for just £20 so it's hardly a deal breaker.

Has anyone come across any great 29er front wheel deals?

Anyone else ordered one of these? I know the OP said it's 6-bolt, as does the description, but there's a comment by one of the wiggle staff saying it's centrelock.

We just bought a DT Swiss E1900 rear, it came as 6-bolt with adaptor to centre lock, a qr and end caps for qr and 12mm, tubeless valve X2, rim tape for two wheels.
Nice wheel out seems.

I just bought the front version of the above from Swinnertons (29er, boost, 30mm) and it came pre taped, with valve and 6 bolt adapter.

I didn't get a valve with mine but at that price... Those wheels are OE so valve not needed.

DT Swiss confirmed those hubs will accept their torque caps. Can this get any better ?

Only If you confirm if it's the xm481 I suppose 🙂

How can I tell ? It looks suspiciously identical to my E1650 wheelset which was also OE...

email to dt swiss or presence of phr washers
you certainly won't be able to feel any seam in the upper spec rim. Possibly would on a sleeved/pinned rim

I can't see or feel any seam whatsoever, unlike say a cheapo WTB or Mavic where you can litteraly see a gap.

It won't be the xm481 with that model name, as Hatter said.

Nice budget wheel anyway though.

Not sure. The rim on the E1650 it replaces would appear identical. No seams bit I don't understand what the tech is on that front so I don't know if that's typical of a budget rim or not.

E1650 was ex511 wasn't it?
No seam would be welded then shot peened

No reason that oe brands wouldn't ask dt to build them some top spec rims on budget hubs to meet price points for spec and not have them follow spline nomenclature.

As a brand, I'd take better rims over better hubs for the same price.

Canyon and Radon could be the grey market these wheels came from

I agree, I thought they were ex511 on my E1650. And comparing them side by side I would say the front is identical both in rim and hub, weight is identical too. Is welded + shot peened a good thing ?

The rear 1650 has the ratchet thing so perhaps the rear 1850 didn't have it but I haven't seen it.

My e1650 were Canyon oe stock.

Any deals around on a matching (quality not cosmetic) boost rear wheel? The closest I could find was M1900 but that was at full retail.

Anyone know how to remove the existing caps? They seem kind of loose, in that they rotate freely relative to the hub, but I can't see how to remove them. Just grab them and pull harder perhaps?

Does anyone have the exact model/spec of torque cap that's needed?

Cheers,

Mowgly, the DT Swiss code is HWGXXX0009100S.This is now fitted to the wheel PSAed in this thread but not sure if it fits other hubs. DT Swiss are very helpful if you send them your hub serial number. But if you have ordered this wheel then you're good to go with the above.

I just have mine to the shop to swap the caps with my old wheels. £5 ! Cheaper than me doing something stupid.

Should just pull out. Holding the end cap lightly in a vice or with some pliers should provide all the purchase you need. New ones just push in easily with a dab of grease.

EDIT: Although the 350/370s seem to use a tool to provide a bit of extra purchase, so may be a bit tighter.
