How long until "Can I use it to get a dropper post serviced?" or "can I use it to buy some posh race tyres?"

Should cross reference any application against Strava profile 🙂

You have done 7000 miles so far this year, your bike must be in need of some new tyres, have a voucher!

vs

You have ridden to work once; you don't need a bike, never mind a voucher to fix it!

“Can I use it to get a dropper post serviced?”

And why not? They're a functional and useful part of a bike. In purely functional terms they're incredibly useful if you have a front mounted child seat.

I've checked the retailer list. All bike shops I've never heard of. I'll be giving actual cash to the ones I know instead

I've got my bike booked in for a fork, shock and seatpost service - mate suggested I should get a voucher. I'm not convinced...always happy to get money off the price of things, but I can afford this so would probably feel a bit bad about using a voucher when it could be used by others that would benefit more from it.

I do think it is a good idea and hopefully encourages people to get things moving, but if it is genuinely for people who have bikes collecting dust then it needs to be promoted all over the place rather than cycling media.

That's very true. I guess the truth will lie somewhere in between. And the published intent behind it. Obviously I'd feel pretty uncomfortable even thinking of claiming. Others might as you say see it as a way of assisting with continuing a low carbon footprint. 🙂

Oldtennishoes - do we have to do this again?

Its well proven that even promoting helmets puts people off cycling in sufficient numbers that it decreases the overall health of the population ( health benefits of cycling being high and protective effects of helmets low) and a court case a couple of years ago made it clear that advertising / public information materials involving bikes does not require that every picture has folk with helmets

It looks to be mostly community based outfits like Common Wheel and Bike For Good, should weed out a lot of those that don't need the voucher.

No idea why this is an issue, I'm pretty sure most of us contribute plenty to the cycling economy and taxes in general to decide what we want to spend the 50 quid on.
