Shimano quietly changed their boost cranks from 52mm chainline to 55 in 2020/21. Never really explained why AFAIK. Wider to accomodate wider chainstays/bigger tyres? I havent changed from 51/52 as it seems to still be working fine

My bad, seems like Sram's boost is 52mm, I was referring to Shimano, I'm not a SRAM fan so didn't realise, god it's confusing when the big 2 can't decide what's what. I didn't click the link so didn't realise you meant SRAM.

I did wonder that. Move the optimum chainline more towards smaller cogs to reduce wear, but then most MTB Ebikes have the motor in the BB and different cranks. Unless that meant all E-Cranks and Normal cranks had to have same chainline for consistency
I think it makes naff all difference unless its for chainstay clearence.

There's a boost version of that groupset also, difference is just the chainring - boost chainring has 3mm offset toward the centre, so chainline moves out to 52, non boost has a 6mm offset for 48mm chainline
If it's a bargain, buy it, try it, if you have issues with chainline/clearance, just need a chainring swap.
(I bought the same kit and fitted it to a non boost bike...... man, a 52t looks HUUUGE on 26" wheels)

My bargain NukeProof Mega bike build may end up to be my shortest owned bike by far(although I do think it's great).....as I've just bought another shorter travel bargain,that may suit me even better....a rather nice Transition Spur. Just need summer to turn up so I can test ride it properly 🙂

Sheesh, Parcelforce, what a joke. My Big Wig has been in the local depot since Monday night (scheduled delivery for Tuesday). They are hoping that it will be delivered "one day this week".
Had a quick peek at the Mega frame I bought, looks even better in the flesh a matte blue should look great with some red Lyriks. Someone asked about weight, popped it on the scales 3.8Kg (XL) not light but not too heavy either. They are still showing some left @ £500.
Prices are all over the place. My Sommet was £369 I think and it’s now £319, the Escarpe was £320, £399 and now back down below £350.
I was super tempted by the mega at £520 but it went to £600 by the time I got brave enough to tell my wife I was buying something else I don’t need and that settled me on the Sommet.
It’s a bargain really even at £609, but £500 is a great deal!
and @joebristol it’s on my list of things to do. School holidays and childcare very much getting in the way though.

Sorted my Daughters out the other week too:
Sold her previous hard tail for £300 so recouped the cost of the frame - just needed to buy a boost rear wheel and shorter dropper, everything else came from my HT.
So net cost is £250.....

Yeah, not looking forward to this bit when I get round to building mine, looks really fiddly and not the best route. Will eventually need a slightly longer dropper anyway I think so might go for an external one next time! Stealth is always a faff to fit.
The dropper cable isn't that big a deal on them,certainly not worth considering an external one .

I use one for winter slop and the decents are actually OK and popping on wider 2.6 tyres cushions the sting a little but they still beat you up like a 6th form bully

Hardtails are hard going if you have got used to full suspension. It’s not so much when you’re standing up going downhill - but the general bumping about when you’d normally be pedalling serenely on a full suss. You have to stand up a lot more / more do the time and it’s tiring. I have both options and ride them for different sorts of stuff. The hardtail is mostly short sharp blasts when riding like my hair is on fire. Jumping and manualling off everything etc. Full suss for everything else.
I had a bike on order with CRC (Vitus Rapide) and then they did the extra10% deal linked above. I emailed on the off chance and they gave me a voucher for the difference, £90!

Sorely tempted by one of the Vitus frames (for a friend of mine) but he only has a 130mm fork for the frame. Suggestion is for 150mm.
In a few months time I think I could increase the travel on the fork to 140 or 150 with a new air spring (Rockshox Revelation), to match the 140 rear.
In the mean time, how much of a problem would the shorter fork be for a very average rider?
You could probably pick up a second hand air shaft on Pinkbike for not alot of money. That's where we tend to look
I was looking at fitting the NX eagle to my bargain mega, which on the alpkit outlet on ebay is £199 complete, but I went a different route.
I bought a GX set of cranks on Merlin for £100, A GX 12 spd shifter and GX rear mech on CRC for a total of £76, and an NX cassette on Alpkit for £39, and the dub BB on alpkit for £15 giving a total of £230, So not far off the NX groupset price.
Of course I still need a Chain, but even then I'm still going to be doing a lot better than had I bought a GX groupset complete which costs £380+ Saved about £120-130 just by shopping about.
All in all not bad going if you are willing to look about and the GX is probably more fitting a kit to fit to such a high end frame.
NX chain is utter bobbins, I'd rather ride a dandy horse! GX is adequate. SLX is better than GX in my experience (2500+ miles of eBike use on an NX cassette, swapping every 500 miles). I've got an X01 to try next.
£39 for an NX cassette is a proper bargain! I thought I'd done well paying £58 for my last one, but that was on the tail end of Covid pricing.

New fork arrived and I am seriously chuffed
Admittedly it was via my favourite tri sport resort ,wiggles ebay clearing outlet and I had to bid on it, but effectively picked up a new 27.5" fox 36 factory grip 2 for £310.
The Nukeproof now has its fork and is well on the way to becoming a dream build.
Sommet is finally taking shape. Excuse the awful looking damp garage! The included Acros headset appears to be awful (rubber seals already tearing off and it feels very flimsy) so have had to nick the compression ring and cover from my old one, luckily seems to all fit ok. Always forget to buy new gear/brake hoses so it's on hold til they arrive. Feels like it should ride fine with 26" so I'll run it like this til I can't get tyres any more I guess 🙂
Never come acriss an Acros headset that wasn't utter shit. no idea how they have such an OEM presence. and they're pioneers of headset routing too, making it all worse.

Are these any good? I haven't ordered a new hose kit for my Elixirs yet but wondering if I should just get a set of these for not much more. I didn't love the SLX brakes I had a few years ago (felt a bit wooden with no modulation) but surely these should be better than decade old Avid brakes?

Normally I'd agree with you but I had a RaceFace bottom bracket on my hardtail for about 2 and a half years of winter riding and general neglect. It just would not die.
@_tom_, IMO/IME yes they're decent brakes. However, if you didn't like the feel of SLX brakes a few years ago you might not like these. IMO similar feel although these have the longer brake levers rather than the stubby little ones more common on Shimano brakes. Definitely better than 10yr old Avids regardless.
I could buy 7 of those RaceFace BBs for the price of the 1 Hope 30mm BB I ordered earlier this week, but haven't yet fitted... I can't imagine the Hope would last 7 times as long, no matter how shit the RaceFace BBs are?
I know it's significantly more, but they have the excellent Deore 6120 for about £70 an end as well...

Thanks! And thanks for the offer but I couldn't miss an 'opportunity' to add to my tool collection and bought one last night 🤦♂️. It is indeed the same/similar to SRAM PSA DUB BBs: 12 notches so seems to work for both. RaceFace do a specific tool but I've gone for one at less than half the price.
Somewhat ironically given the boutique nature of their products, my genuine Hope BB30 tool cost less than either of those.

Gave up with trying to route the Sommet dropper cable through the slot in the frame. Looks to be impossible without removing the shock bolt which I couldn't be arsed with last night! What a terrible design. So I've just bodged it round the BB and put a protective sticker on the frame so it doesn't rub. Still at least it's all built now apart from needing a longer rear brake hose - none of those cheap Shimano brakes will be long enough either 🙁
Thankfully all my old components fit with just a few adapters needed! Just got to get the gears adjusted now, looks like the mech will go inboard enough on my non boost hub with the adjustment screws anyway. So that's tonight's headache 🙂

Well I didn't think to try that 🙂 the SP41 outer didn't seem flexible enough without giving a really sharp bend but will give it a try at some point.
Just routed the dropper on an Escarpe, which I imagine is same/similar. I threaded the wire first via the dropper post end, bit of twisting/ pushing so that it turns to go up the downtube. Snagged it with a hook when it crossed the downtube openning - twiddled it a few times before it appeared. Then simple to pass the outer over it. Didn't even have to resort to my magnet/ cable routing kit.
Use brake outer for the dropper, way more flexy

In my experience the Hope would outlast all 7 Raceface BBs.
I got through 2 in less than a year (Turbine cranks + Raceface BB30), then a Praxis that lasted only 2 wet rides.
The Hope I bought over a year ago is still spinning as smoothly as new + bearings are easily replaced if ever needed.
And yes, they all take slightly different tools 🤬

Been eyeing up the Vitus Energie EVOs as looking to give CX racing a go over winter and doubling it up as a gravel bike.
Really fancied the red Force AXS model as it’s a stonking spec for the cash (especially if it was with the extra 10%, but alas). Only the teal Rival model is included in the extra 10% - making it £1,530, which as cycle to work is not available with wiggle/CRC for a while, would be a more sensible purchase than the top of the range job. Is there anything else out the better for the money or would be cycle to work friendly?

Finally finished my sons cheap Mega frame build using spare parts including some Lyrik Ultimates that were too big for my bike (came from a 2022 CRC sale) I also bought a pair of SRAM Guide G2 RS from CRC for £79.98 - they still have them front only but all you need to do is get a longer hose they are ambidextrous.
I’m still a bit annoyed that I hesitated with the Mega until it went to £600 meaning I had to get the Sommet. I’ve only ridden it once since it arrived so it wouldn’t have mattered anyway!
If anyone here missed out on a Sommet 27 frame I'm thinking of putting mine up for sale. Got a medium but having ridden it a bit more feel I should have gone for the small. Was hoping to trade but no luck so far.
