Ooh that Sommet frame then, seems like a great price with the shock included too! Off to read some reviews and find my credit card.. if I get the 275 version I can probably chuck all my 26" stuff on it if the bb wouldn't be too low with a 170mm Lyrik..

Don't hold your breath if you have ordered a bike. CRC now use Parcel Farce for bike deliveries who seem as efficient as ever. I have been waiting for a bike for ten days now which is moving around their network with glacial slowness. It takes 2-3 days to cover each stage. Currently it is waiting in the delivery centre about eight miles from my house where it has been for a day and a half presumably waiting for the horse and cart. If it doesn't arrive Monday, complaints to CRC. I wouldn't feel so annoyed if I hadn't had to pay for this 'service' . At least smaller stuff is free.

If it is just 8 miles away, are you able to go collect? Doesn't help but may get the bike sooner...

Parcel force weren’t perfect on my delivery either.
dispatched Thursday, processed Friday. Out for delivery Saturday - I ignored that - I’ve never had a parcel force delivery on Saturday that I didn’t pay through the nose for. It was then due Monday with a delivery slot, I wasn’t in so chose to delivery 2 working days from then. I make that to be Wednesday, they do maths differently in parcelforce so it didn’t move from the depot until thursday. No time of delivery though, Sod’s Law it would probably come while I was on the school run. As it happened I ran into the driver in asda car park and he was happy to give me the box after I’d given him a few details as it saved him driving down the lanes to get to us - he’s a good egg!

The frame (Sommet) is lovely btw, was immaculate. Headset seems pretty rubbish but it will do. It’s mostly built now and I can’t wait to get out on it.

Fitting a chain device, in my experience can be a bit finicky with non boost cranks. At least that’s what I find with my Saint Cranks on a boost frame. Moving the non drive side bottom bracket spacer to the drive side helped.

Ah balls, really? How come, do the chainstays really pinch inwards that much so close to the tyre? The 2020 Sommet 27 complete came with 2.5 tyres, mine are 2.35 which I used to run in a 650b YT Wicked frame no problem.

I'm desperately trying to find an excuse not to buy one(or the nukeproof carbon(£499-with a shock that retails at 350)

At least with the nukeproof i dont have a suitable fork, but by gum its a hell of a deal.

I ran 26" wheels on a 27.5" Saracen full sus for a while after a warranty replacement and it was fine. Barely noticed when I eventually changed to 27.5.

It depends on the brand of crank - Shimano has different cranks, SRAM you just change the chainring.

@_tom_ this is the 290 chainstay, doesn’t curve much - assuming the 275 isn’t a million miles off you’ll probably be fine unless you run really wide tyres

@pimpingimp thanks for that, hopefully the 275 is similar! Hard to find any photo/video of the 2020 model that give a good view of that area and clearance so will just have to wait and see. Will probably have to return it if not as I can't afford new wheels and fork to go with it 🙁

On the NP Blackline trousers I used them for the first time today. Fox Launch D30 pads fit underneath them ok enough for my liking which is good. Brilliant at the end of the ride just tracking trousers off and losing all the spray / mud. They all also lovely and light so even though it was warm and humid (but a bit of drizzle / loads of puddles) I didn’t think they really ran much hotter than shorts.

Water came through the seat of them but ran off the dwr over most of the rest of them. So best to assume they aren’t waterproof. Came home and immediately bought another pair ready for the winter

Those (now not quite so) cheap deore mechs, do they perform better than a m8000 xt or m7000 slx? They look to have a design more inline with the 12 speed sets.

For £1200 I’m very tempted to update myself from my 2016 Specialized Enduro 27.5

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/ragley-big-wig-hardtail-bike-moss?color=moss&sizeStandard=m

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/ragley-blue-pig-hardtail-bike-blueish-grey?color=blueish-grey&sizeStandard=m

These prices seem ridiculous. The Blue Pig caught my eye originally, I have never ridden a 29er but that Big Wig looks Blimin’ lovely!

I've possibly got the last 275 mega then. Order confirmed and currently processing(XL Blue)

This what happens. You hum and you haw and take so long they all sell out. I did the same on those grip 2 38 factory 29ers a few months back for £534. Hummed and hawed too long

😥

That's why I jumped in immediately on a Reactor. I thought they'd all go. That said, it did drop another £150 later and the Mega was briefly the same price so.. hmm.

I think I would have preferred the reactor - shorter 130mm travel isnt it 😕 probably easier matching one of my forks to it, but hey ho, a spiffing deal is a spiffing deal.

it’s a cracking bike. The fork is the only potential weak point but an upgraded damper (I went for a Novyparts Splug) makes it an all round very capable bike.

Anyone got experience of DPD next day? Ordered Monday night and paid for next day (today), says it's been dispactched but DPD haven't recorded pickup yet, is this normal?

Yes, I'll raise it if it doesn't arrive but just wondering if I'm going to be sitting here this time tomorrow night waiting on a package that was supposed to have us riding tomorrow.

I've bought the Vitus E-Substance (2x10) to replace my Boardman Adv 8.9e which is my commuter.

It's been in my basket for a week, they just knocked another £80 off which helped me pull the trigger. I would have gone for the full carbon one for not much more but they are out of medium.

Done it for a very stupid reason as well, the Boardman is 1x and I always wanted 2x because I wanted the range and close gear ratio. I tried but there just wasn't enough clearance for the inner chainring. Something that always bug me so that would resolve that.

I happen to have a di2 gravel bike that I rarely use anymore, so going to transfer the di2 over and sell it as I try to stick to my 1 in 1 out rule.

I could have sold my Boardman but it has 4.5k km on the clock so is probably worth pennies. Plan to turn that into my gravel bike / backup commuter. Having 2 Fazua bikes also mean I can carry a spare battery if I decide to go on a longer ride.

I thought as I spend most of my saddle time commuting, might as well do it on as nice of a bike as I could. Just can't say no at that price.

Sommet 275 frame arrived today! Looks like there's bags of clearance for the rear tyre, haven't taken my wheel out to give it a proper check yet but looks like I needn't have worried. The matte black with black logo looks very nice. Now I have to decide if I want to murder/stealth it out with all black parts and black stanchion forks, or add some nice subtle colour accents in the stem/pedals/finishing kit. I love the look of the Raceface Kashmoney finished stuff.

Well I folded and bought an XL Mega for my son, currently on a 2019 Bronson XL he's getting a bit lanky and might appreciate the extra reach. Probably be able to sell the Bronson for the same at least, new frame for old! Same colour as @gravesendgrunt your build photo looks awesome.

@rascal if your the correct size I have a medium-long going spare

It sits bang between a med and large (you don't say) but seriously it's worth checking the siz8ng out see if it fits your bill

The med long over the std med  has more reach longer wheelbase etc

Geometry geeks website is a good place for you to compare the sizing difference

Now when they were 599 I thought it such a deal I scrambled my ipad and hastily ordered one but what I wanted was a medium, once I relized I'd ordered a medium long crc said I couldn't change the order I'd have to reorder and return .

Not very environmentally friendly when I'd had only been 1hr from ordering

Anyhow it's bottle blue mega 275 carbon new in the box -size medium long

I'm not wanting to get rich but I would like my money back although I'm aware they were further reduced by 100 pounds

If not I'll return it or stick it on pb

That is pretty crap, because I ordered one of the Vitus, then 2 hours later went on live chat and cancelled it.

They initially said no, but I pressed them saying it was only 2 hours since placing the order and it was 11am(placing order at 9am) and they relented and cancelled it.

Not sure the refund has went through yet though, bank seemed a little short, though that might be down to paypal transfer not CRC.

It was a day later I ordered one of the Nukeproof's, so it wasnt replacing one with the other when i asked to cancel.

ML is 3.6kg on my scales. Excl seatclamp and internal cable rubber tubes I assume to dampen any cable rattles. Not that light.

Well, this Nukeproof sale has massively raised the profile of the brand I reckon. Pretty good use of stock surplus, better than any ad campaign.

This is typical.

Im in need(for the mega 27.5") some cranks* and a dropper**.

Typically there were some decent droppers in some PSA a few months back, and i said to myself, 'oh on,dont need one of those'

HA!

* Whats the deal with boost, as in rear wheel. Does this mean I need a set of cranks that are 'boost' compatible ?

Wondering if this is a good set up and will fit ok.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225694145284?hash=item348c6b5b04:g:kBkAAOSw9mpjz9a9

** Is there a max size the 27.5" frame will take ?. Its an XL and the seat tube curves, so would 170mm fit fine ?

You don't need boost cranks for that Mega, normal 52mm chainline XT on mine work better, actually 51mm with Blackspire snaggletooth ring as it offsets 1mm, no clearance issues with 34t.

No, 52mm seems the minimum now, 53mm was boost a few years ago, now 55mm is the new boost for Shimano.
