They're not floating rotors btw, they're 2-part solid rotors. Which is almost certainly better, but, just thought it might be worth mentioning.

No, but it's only available on the XT level RT86, and the XT and XTR groupset versions.

Those Centrelock rotors - are they the ones that use the cassette tool or the ones that use the BB tool? Google isn't helping...

I think they can use either lock ring, the BB-tool lockrings are just for through axle hubs, and usually come with the hubs.

Could you please explain to me the difference between floating and 2 part solid rotors and their benefits/weaknesses. I honestly didn't realise this was a thing.

@trusty shimano suggests BB tool.

The lockring and tool is dictated by the hub, the rotors are all the same.

e.g. DT BB lockrings don't fit Fulcrum hubs with BB lockrings as one has an internal and the other an external thread, which also means you can't run DT 6-bolt adapters on them. But any SRAM or Shimano center lock rotor will fit them.

2-part rotors are just lighter than 'normal' ones. Probably a bit stronger and stiffer too.

Floating ones as above, but resist warping, which is an issue in MotoGP, not really in MTB.

So basically floating rotors have some float- the braking surface can move a little on the carrier. These 2 part ones don't have any float, the braking surface is solidly mounted to the carrier. It allows for a bit more expansion/contraction in the braking surface, which gets much hotter than the middle so usually you get a lot of difference in expansion between the outside edge and the centre. But a floating rotor uses that float to allow the outer braking disc to move and expand, while the inside doesn't, avoiding that stress. OTOH it adds complexity and a little weight compared to a fixed rotor.

Real floating rotors are something you mostly see on motorbikes, sometimes on cars, they're pretty rare on pushbikes. Hope have done them for a long time. Some cheaper brands do 'em though a lot of the claimed "floating" rotors on the market actually have zero float.

In practice, I couldn't tell any difference except that my Hope ones went rattly, so I returned them and the replacements went rattly too, so I got some solid rotors instead. But they did look lovely and tbf that's mostly why people want them.

Cheers, they had the right serial numbers but the pictures threw me showing the other lockrings. I've ordered a couple anyway to have as spares, can't not for a tenner an end!
