Wiggle crc have the guide re for £39.99

Importantly it includes clamps

Whilst it's front only the levers are ambidextrous so buy some hope hose in stock on there and some lifeline olives for sram and for under a ton you have some great cheap brakes

Ps the rear is available on there for 50 notes but no clamps

Hope the link works I'm a tech tard

Thanks son of David Moyes.

Can’t see any reference on the listing to the rear not having the clamp, although may have missed it?

Guide REs have become my go to stopper, cheap (not normally this cheap!) powerful, completely fuss free. a nice place to be after previously sticking with leaky shimano breaks for years.

@superstu the listing I linked has the front brake for 40 but the rear is over a 100 so not such a bargain for the rear but if you search under brakes or type sram guide re there is another listing for a rear without clamp for 50 notes

Tempted.

My bike came fitted with Guide T's which have always been lacking in power (to the point I took the bike back to my LBS to double check the brakes were indeed fine!).

Does anyone know whether the Guide RE's will provide a worthwhile upgrade to the Guide T's?

Yeah they will be a big improvement on the guide T. I had a set on a big bike a couple of years ago. Plenty of power. Great brakes

Yeah definitely an upgrade in power, the RE’s run the older style code calipers. Absolute bargain for £40.

Anyone know if these calipers would play nicely with Guide RSC/Ultimate levers? Would there be any benefit?

@jamescarters

I’ve got exactly those combos on 2 bikes, except I’m using the newer version of the caliper.

I had Guide Ultimates and when CRC were doing Codes cheap a while ago switched to Ultimate levers with new calipers. It’s a big step up from the Guides. I’ve got the same setup but with RSC levers on my other bike.

I ran a front Guide Ultimate lever with a Code R rear lever for a while, couldn’t tell any difference in power but the feel of the Ultimate lever is nice, especially once your hands are a bit tired.

Are these a worthwhile upgrade over Code R?

No. They’re basically the same as a Code R but with a slightly smaller fluid reservoir in the lever I think. Will feel exactly the same.

On mine the lever piston swelled up and siezed, still great brakes, but send £8 on some metal pistons from China (and some needle nosed circlip pliars) and swap them out pre-emptively. Once I'd ground the pliars down to fit in the cylinder bore it was a 5 minute job + bleed afterwards.

Anyone know if these calipers would play nicely with Guide RSC/Ultimate levers? Would there be any benefit?

Yes, but you may as well just source some newer code calipers unless you really like the chunky aesthetic.
