Derbyshire based outdoor goods retailer Terra Nova have their Laser 6L waist packs for £10 at the moment.

https://www.terra-nova.co.uk/sale/rucksacks-sale/eol-laser-6-pack/

I've just grabbed one as a ride-from-your-door pack to chuck on and carry the essentials during a lunchtime blast.

It arrived today and looks great for the money! Might be a good way of dipping your toe in if fanny-pack (Ooh-err) curious!

Looks good for inbetween days when you might want to stash a couple of layers. How it sits with a bit of weight in it will be key.

That does look like a very good price! You got any pics of yours mounted on your arse full of kit for reference?

Well, for a tenner I'm giving it a go. Should come in handy for running as well.

Wht bladder does anyone use with these (or similar)?

Not gonna run a bladder in mine, just pump, tube(s), tools etc.

Will try and chuck it all in and get a pic to see if it makes my bum look big! 🤣

Done! Ordered a black one to replace my 90s one that makes me look like I should have leg warmers on too🤣

The £4.95 post was a bit of a sting in tail though!!

Nice one, done. Should be good when I need a bit more space than my very minimal botrager bumbag. Really dislike taking a full pack nowadays

Bumbag and trekking poles, cheers OP.

Shows it with a Camelback bladder fitted sideways..... That will not work well.

I'm a fan of bumbags for summer riding though. I got the Evoc ages back in the psa and bought the expensive bladder to go with it as I liked it so much.

How's that then? Been using a cheap decathlon bladder sideways for a few years, works perfectly well.

Great PSA!

Good PSA. I have the Seral - top quality and includes a decent bladder, too. That one is definitely on the large side though.

@dogthomson - great PSA - ordered one. Can't find any dimensions, any chance you can measure the bladder compartment (height/width) so I can figure out if an existing bladder would squeeze in or if I need to get one? - thanks.

The main compartment is c. 30cm and there's a mesh sleeve inside with holes in the bottom corners that I presume could be used for a bladder.

Whats the best way to put some photos up to illustrate?

Excellent thanks dogthomson 👌
No need for pics - I can see from the ones on the terra nova site how it works. If the main compartment is about 30cm wide I have a bladder that should go.
Happy days - thanks again!

I've gone for one too. If it's too big I'll give it the Mrs as a present for walking as she always complains about having to carry a rucksack.

Thanks

Cheers, ordered the Seral one - worth the extra from my POV as it looks like just what I want and the bladder will be the perfect size.

Ordered the seral then saw this one....doh!
EOL looks a LOT bigger (despite being 6l vs 7l) but has bungees to flatten in when you're only carrying a few things. Tempting to get both.

Seral has the proper bladder and seems a bit more compartmentalised, still >2.5 x the price tho

Anyone used the Savu and can speak for how big it is? - I know it says 4L but its allways a gamble on what that actually means. I allways have water in a cage so dont need the added bladder for the more expensive one but want it to be big enough for a light jacket though

Informative Osprey Savu review here:

https://www.bikemag.com/gear/apparel/packs/tested-osprey-savu-hip-pack-55/

I have a Dakine Hotlaps 5 and ordered a Savu for dog walking and the kids.

I had one of those terra nova bum bags a few years back which I bought for fell running.

The problem I found is if you add more than a few hundred grams of weight it bounces and chafes when running, but if you don't pack it full enough then at 6 litres there is too much volume inside and everything still bounces anyway. Was okay for walking or for carrying something light and bulky like a down jacket but somewhat limited in practice. Not sure about cycling as never tried using it for that purpose.

Other annoying things were that the straps were excessively long, and the zip was weak and failed prematurely.

They are cheap for a reason.

Ta, I've ordered a Savu, was tempted by the terra nova but the practically of bottles seems better option.

Tera Nova turned up today. First impressions are good. Very light, seems well made. I can get a 1l bladder in the pocket easily, and think I would still have space left over for phone, multi tool, puncture repair kit and also a layer for stops etc. Wing pockets look handy for tools and small snacks.
Tried the jumping up and down test to see how stable it was with the full 1l bladder in it. Seemed ok, maybe not as stable as my botrager rapid pack but still ok. Proof will be in the trying it out on a real ride for that test though.
The bungees do seem reasonably effective at cinching down but there seem to be some spare loops that could make that more effective not sure why they don't provide more elastic really.
Only bad point identified so far, is nowhere obvious to stash the end of the bladder hose. I'll probably just jam the end into a wing pocket if I use it with a bladder.

I have mine.  Used it on a couple of rides, and as I don't have a bladder to go in I just hoy a 500mL bottle in it.  That, with an inner tube, CO2, tyre levers and a repair kit fits with loads of room to spare.

More room than a Deuter Pulse 3 and just as secure.

Mine also arrived this morning. It's a good size and seems like it'll easily fit everything I'm wanting to take out on a ride. Cheers for the PSA.

Osprey Savu turned up this morning.  Looks like a good bit of kit.  The 12 year old Enduro-bro wants to use it.

My savu turned up yesterday. Two rides so far, seems to fit everything you need for a local ride with ease and is essentially invisible while riding. As an extra hoped for plus  it has reduced the incidence of CTS in both arms as I no longer have straps over my shoulders.
