Start fitness have Ascends and Ascend XLs a bit cheaper than CRC, 125, 150 and 170mm come down to £117 when you put 'EXTRA10' in the discount code section. 200mm slightly more at £140. Just received my 170mm today, can't tell if they're older versions than the one's CRC are selling atm.

Probably would have had one of these if I hadn't just found a working Reverb in the loft!

That's pretty much start fitness's permenant price, and the discount code also always work IME.

Ta for the PSA as well - 170mm here now!

Any idea what's the difference between the latest/earlier versions?

Cheers,

Rich

I've recently bought a 170 and 200mm ascend and they seem to have a slightly shorter overall length (comparing my older 170mm that is going to be replaced by the new one). Only thing that's slightly disappointing is they have removed the air valve from under the seat clamp so no longer able to pump it up. I've only had to do it once or twice on my 2 year old 170mm dropper though so maybe not a big deal.

Where is the air valve now? The worst bit about my KS seapost is the faff to repressurise.

Unless it’s hidden inside somewhere, which seems very unlikely, there isn’t one. Pretty sure the shorter travel ascend post has never had the valve so seems like the XL has followed suit.

Thanks for this - the prices have gone up on most of them since the original post but luckily for me the 30.9/125mm that I need is still at the low price, and the discount code still works too!

I'm wavering on whether to get the 125 or 150.. Currently have the 100 drop and since swapping my peddles and cranks could size up a bit.. The travel can be restricted just like the OneUp posts. A 150 drop could come in handy for when I swap bikes in the future.. Oh what to do???

That code also works on other things, I got 10% off my Marzocchi Z1 forks...

Pretty sure that's no longer the case. The new posts (they have a different collar design, so you can see which one is which) can't be shimmed down.

@Poopscoop apparently the brand x post have 6 slots keys therefore requiring a different shim.

I found this on youtube.. linky
Reading through the comments it looks seams straightforward.

@asbrooks

Keep us posted mate, as I'd potentially like to get a longer BX but would need to shim it down a little.

@Poopscoop I've just ordered the 150mm travel version & a OneUp V1 dropper spacer which probably won't fit but at least it'll give me an idea on the thickness of the thing.

Thanks for the PSA @gotbike

Thanks! Saw this the other day but convinced myself my 170mm was fine, but I've now bought a new frame so makes sense to have at least one nice new bit of kit to put on it

200mm for £139 is a bargain. That's less than 70p per mm!

Bloody shame they can't be reduced in travel anymore, also that the air valve has gone.

All that being said, bloody good droppers.

replaced my old one up 170 post (which had lost a cm of post extension)

went for a ride tonite i was surprised at how much of a difference the extra 3cm of drop makes

Still just £139 with code - total bargin...

Has anyone actually tried to put the shim in? Whytes used to come with the brand x , the one with the new style collar , and they included the travel reducing shim with the packaging so would imagine you can shim it down.

I'll just leave this here - I'm replacing all our BrandX/derivatives with PNW Rainier posts. They are better built at same price, or choose thier cheaper model for same innards as BrandX.

Interesting, looks like a good deal if they are better built

They do look good...but just had a look at the ordering process and price ends up being £179 with shipping. So i'll probably end up attracting VAT and import duty when it arrives in the UK.
I'd guess the final price will be more like £200+ in the end.

And you need to supply, or add on, a lever. Doesn't seem that good a deal to me.

I also looked at the PNW dropper but I was put off at everything coming from America. Would probably mean a few weeks down time if you had to warranty anything.

Brand x are still great posts for the money and you get can spares next day if you pay for it.

I’ve never understood why people pay double or triple for other seatposts they just add more complications to a thing that literally needs to go up and down.
