These always look like a waste of time. A friend uses one and it barely stops any mud. It seems too far away from the wheel.
Worth a go for a quid though for my daughters bike where the wheel is a lot closer.
It seems like the price they should be anyway no the ridiculous price charged by some companies.

Good PSA. bought more than I could ever really need and spent less than a tenner.

Might be finding themselves included as christmas presents if they're as balls as DrP says.

Although I've always seen them as more of a roady type thing, keeping a bit of drizzle off your arse for a few miles, rather than providing real protection in UK slop and grime.

I bought one ages ago (when it was a fiver), it basically fails to keep the mud off you.

Even if it was free Id not be able to recommend it.

A six inch strip of duck tape over your arse crack is cheaper, and better...

Very saddle and bike geo dependent. Some saddles have mouldings and rail mounts that point them down towards wheel out of the spray line, some longer chainstays will mean it doesn't extend far enough back intersect the spray off the wheel. Of the 13 bikes in our garage they work on 2.

Does a great job on my SS, especially keeping shite off the saddle when stood up.

don't they do MTB specific ones? Always thought they were for road use.

Though, the red ones really stand out in murky conditions. I noticed a roadie with a red one and it was almost doing the job of daytime lights....if that makes sense>

Bought a couple then applied cycle2work discount I have, so £1.60!
Work quite well on road bikes & cyclocross.

No good in strong winds though"

Great on road and cx. They aren't full on guards, so your legs will get wet and you might get a bit of over spray up your back, but installed well they keep your arse dry, which is kind of the point.

Yes, it is not supposed to keep the mud off you, but keep the mud/water off your ass/chamois.

You can get wider versions for the mtb though.

Imagine if Halfords did an unfinished and custom painting service, they might sell a lot of bikes...

Picked up two today, thanks. Had been thinking of getting one for a while, but never quite got round to it. Though given the comment above I'm now wishing I'd got red instead of black.

That looks just the thing to cut down and stop the wet soaking the underside of my brooks

One on my road bike, better than nothing but won't keep you dry/clean.
