Chainreaction selling Brooks cambium c17 all weather carved saddle for £59.99. I've found these the most comfortable saddles i've used.

As a user of two C17 Cambium saddles I find them great for more upright riding but I found them less than great in a **cough** racier **cough** position - this seems to be backed up by the suggestion on the Brooks website.

Saddles are always subjective but just my 2 cents.

Now to find a carved C15 for a decent price!

Yes, I was going to say the same. They're good for touring and gravel, but uncomfortable on the rivet.

Is it the same shape as the B17? I had one of those briefly and it felt wider than my toilet seat.

Are these reasonably Charge Spoon shaped?

Too late now, obviously, as I got all excited and banged an order in without really considering it. If not someone may get a further discount in the classifieds shortly...

Thanks OP, have ordered one of these.

tthew - I have another Cambium on a different bike and would say they are not far off a Charge Spoon size, I find them much comfier though.

A Charge Spoon is more akin to a C15 as both are circa 140mm wide.

A C17 is 164mm wide so a fair bit wider than the Spoon. It's also overall wider through the length to the nose.

@oceanskipper I had a bit of chafing on my first ride on the Cambium, but it's been spot on ever since.

ETA: I used it when riding from the Med to the Channel and experienced only mild discomfort towards the end of the trip. Pretty good I reckon.

@oceanskipper I know what problems getting the right saddle can be. I've just done the c2c (whitehave to tynemouth) and although everything else ached , I didn't get a twinge from the c17. Hope it works out for you.

It may just be me but I think that although a c17 is a wider saddle than eg a spoon, it's not necessarily for a wider arse. But it might be for a different purpose. I love it on a relaxed road bike or gravel type bike and have had them on both for a long time. Best saddles ever for me, a bit of a game changer. Charge spoons were ok for me for the same application, plus mountain bike as well.

C15, however, I didn't like at all (on the mountain bike I had it on). It might've been the width fit but it also doesn't "give" like a C17. But since it was on a singlespeed (minimal seated riding) I kept it a while. I've now picked one of these up (thanks for the psa!) to try on a mtb, although I'm skeptical as to whether it'll just be too wide for me to move myself around it adequately. I'll see what happens...

Thanks @bobgarrod @ransos

I’ve got a HT (so a 60 - 70 degree riding angle) that is mostly used on disused railway line type tracks and I’ve tried various Ergon saddles thus far. All the Ergons have been completely comfortable in every respect sitbone wise but an annoying chafe right at the top of my inside leg, near my arse cheek, on one side or the other. I had thought maybe it was the chamois but I’m thinking it’s actually the saddle now so hopefully the C17 will work.

I had the same problem with a Fizik saddle that came on a recent gravel bike purchase. Other than that was very comfortable. Since swapped to an old C17 and everything is good with the world.

One thing I can't quite fathom is how people can have the nose pointing down. I just find myself sliding forward too much. Thankfully I find it comfortable enough being almost level.

@wait4me I am the same. I have the nose up by about 5 degrees actually as I feel like I'm sliding forwards all the time otherwise.

Debating this. It's very much a touring saddle imo and probably best for a bike where the bars are higher than the saddle. I used to have a B17 and that was by far and a way the most comfortable saddle I've used in normal clothes. But I'd hate to be using it in a head down arse up attitude.

C17 says it suits a 60 degree riding angle so it's not designed for head down stuff by the looks of it.

Should be about right for an MTB then. 👍

I've only ever had one Brooks before, and that was fitted to an old Post Office bike. It had springs an' 'tings, the handlebars were very much higher than the saddle!
