They really need to do a version with one pedal named Mork the other Mindy.
Nano Nano

(bit age dependent though)

Did I hear that Superstar now make the pedalling Innovations catalyst Evo pedals?

Are these any cop? Last set I had the bearings were poo, but that was a fair while ago and I'm pretty sure the design has changed since.

I might be misremembering as the last superstar product I bought was when nanos originally came out but, the quality doesn't seem that great compared to the originals, the centre pin placements could also be better thought out

For the price (with discount) they're fine at full price I'd look elsewhere

Cool, cheers. Half the price of Vaults (which I have at the moment) so might grab a pair to go on the second bike I may get round to building up. On the other hand I have an old pair of V8s I could probably get away with... And probably an old pair of Nanos that need new bearings / bushes.

That's exactly what I did, I bought a new pair of brendogs just before lockdown and was going to just switch between bikes seeing as my DH bike wont be used for the foreseeable future.

As I said they're fine but not a patch on vaults

I've got a mate has offered me a bunch of bits off his collection of 26" shed bikes, so I might see what I can blag off them first anyway. Stick the Vaults on the 'best' bike and see what I can find for the hardtail.

I bought two pairs of the evo nano x pedals ages ago when they had a big discount.

One pair went on my downhill bike. The pedal body bent very badly after what was a hard pedal strike coming up a bit short. It rendered the pedals useless. But I've had similar pedal strikes on other brands and never bent the pedal body, gouged them sure but never rendered useless. It seemed like the alloy was much softer...

The other set went on another bike thats my usual trail bike, another pedal strike on a rock squished the the body of the pedal together, not as bent out of shape as the other pair but pretty disappointing.

Buy cheap, buy twice... then buy burgtec pedals and be done with it

Also meant to say the pins were also very soft and bent very easily

I think you have been unlucky, I've had numerous pairs in recent years and have bashed them into many, many rocks.

Bent a couple of axles, which are replaceable, but no real damage to the pedal bodies.

The issue I've had is the bushings don't last the way they did on the Taiwan-made versions, and I don;t think the bearings do either (sealing not so effective?).

If people don't need the through pins (better for rockier areas), these Taiwanese imports might be worth considering instead...

I'm not sure its luck to be honest. Two pairs doing the same suggests to me that they are indeed cheap because they are made from cheap soft alloys.

Granted the impact on the dh bike was severe and may have bent any pedal.
But the set that were on the trail bike got to the point they couldn't be used within a few months.

I've got Easton pedals I bought roughly in 2002 that have went through various bikes over the years and still in better condition than how the nanos ended up.

I loved my Evo-Xs. Until one ride when I noticed the feel of one pedal changed. On inspection the pedal body had sheared near the join to the axle. The pedals were just over two years old. They'd taken a fair few rock strikes, but I would have been able to stand up to the generally light abuse my riding would give them.

A friend had a set on his dirt jump bike and one pedal failed in the exact same spot. No rock strikes, but likely a few heavy landings. His pedals were less than a year old, and he only rode his dirt jumper a handful of times a month over that time period.

I suppose at this price they're not a terrible bargain, but I've been using plastic Nukeproof Horizons for the last year and they've been spot on. Less than thirty quid to boot!

I prefer the generic older one's with the rounded corners and better seals. Mine have been battered for years and are still going strong!

eXotic and Moove still sell-em.

My Nanos are four years old and had probably thirty odd trips to BPW. A few lost pins is all I’ve suffered.
I’ve got spares ready to go on but not needed yet.

I've got a pair of Nano X that are 3 years old, and a pair of Nano Evo that are 2. My mate has a pair of X that are 3 years old.
All the Xs have needed is a bearing change, the Evos have had nothing. The platforms on the Xs are battered to ****, but not broken at all.
Great pedals.

By contrast, the v12s(same axle and bearings as Vaults I think?) That came on my other bike with 2 rides on them started to do the familiar DMR bush rattle after 2 months.

I've got Nanos, but some folk don't like em, so just to add to the PSA
Fair few on Startcycles (Shimano, Burgtec, DMR), mostly odd colours are reduced, but worth a browse (+ extra 5% off when sign up for newsletter)
https://www.startfitness.co.uk/cycle/components/pedals-cleats.html?limit=160

Just bought a 170mm Brand X dropper for under £120 off there.

I hate psas like this because now I’ve accidentally bought some anodised red Nano Evo’s!

I don’t even really need new pedals but wondered how the red would look on my raw Bird Aether......if it looks crap then they’ll have to go on the Vitus Sentier instead where they’ll offend me less and the black Nano’s off there can go on the Bird.

Means my hybrid gets a pedal upgrade to Carbon Cycles Exotics and the battered MG1’s get relegated to the spares box!
