Do you stick with the service schedule at all as they look like they need some looking after

dunno.....fairly new so havent touched them. Do people regularly self-service Rockshox? Most likely will give them to Evans next year for a service at some stage.

As long as you're not a complete muppet with anything mechanical, they're pretty easy to service.
You can download the service manual here:
http://www.sram.com/service/rockshox/7
And have a look to see what they're like to service.

Mechanically speaking, I'm Kermit.

Thanks for the link, most likely I'm going to try and keep them nice and clean then get a professional to give them a proper service in the springtime. Just hoping they stand up to a bit of UK filth better than Fox.

I've never had any bother with either my RS or Fox forks. I just make a point of rinsing the mud off the stanchions after a ride, give them a quick wipe to dry them then give them a quick spray with some Juice Lubes Fork Juice.
Seems to keep them working the way they're meant to!

My Pikes have been abused and not serviced for many years... took them in back in the Spring and the mechanic looked at them and declared them absolutely fine, and that they didn't really need serviced at all even then!

That is December 2005 - May 2012 without being touched, as a point of reference. Ridden extensively in Scotland, the Lakes, Wales and the Peaks during most of that period until the dark days of not riding from December 2008 - this year.

I bought some Reba RL's from them - they said they couldn't be adjusted when I e-mailed them.

OK, only need for 120mm but it would be nice to have the option for the future

I used to service fox forks myself easy enough but the rs seem to advise they need more regular looking at

And I wouldn't give any shocks to Evans !!

I always though it was Fox with the ridiculously short service intervals?

Sounds about right, I give my 2009 Lyrics a once over every month or so. just undo the bolts, drop the lowers off, pull the foam rings out, wipe the seals, soak foam rings in oil and re-insert, pack seals with suspension grease, lowers back on, 15ml 15wt in the lowers, do the bolts back up. Then every 6 months service the damper with new oil.

If I leave them any longer than 6-8 weeks (35-50 hours) there's a noteable improvement after serviceing, so makes sense to keep them sweet.

Unless they're leaking I don't replace anything.

Although they don't seem to suffer from wear if you neglect them like fox, they just don't work quite so well.

I do find the Marzochhi 'We'll give you a 3 year warranty and don't bother servicing them during the warranty period' approach quite refreshing.
