I’ve picked up a second hand bike with a Wheels PF30 BB. I’m keen to swap out the existing crank to a Sram xx1 11 speed. This is sold as a BB30 compatible unit but does anyone know if this will fit my PF30? The Wheels webpage has some info about it suggesting it will but beyond that I’ve not had much success trying to work out if it will or won’t. Thanks for any help.

Hi. I run a sram 11x crank (not xx1) with a wheels manufacturing ceramic pf30 bb (or I did until I swapped it for a Hope pf46 last weekend but that’s another story!), and it’s fine.

As long as the crank is pf30 (and not fox) and the bb is flush with the bb shell (wheels do a pf30 “outboard” that is for shimano style cranks) then you should be ok. The cranks will have a 13mm spacer with them that you need to use on the drive side and pay attention to the guidelines on the sram site for spacers based on your bb shell

Hope that helps a bit

Thanks for your reply. The PF30 I have certainly appears to be flush, ie not outboard. The xx1 crank seems to be sold for BB30 with no mention of PF30 that I can see. I wondered if the spindle would be long enough

I was actually considering the merits of swapping the bb for a Sram DUB bb and then go that way. Any thoughts on that? Cheers

The spindle should be long enough if it’s listed as bb30. What width is the bb shell on the bike?

I don’t have any experience with the sram dub stuff, all my cranks are either sram bb30, shimano road (24mm) or Hope 30mm. If the pf30 bb is good (wheels are good but check the bearings are smooth) then you’ll have no issues and I’d stick with that if you’ve got a good price on the cranks.
Def worth looking at the sram compatibility guide on their service page though

So here is the guidance:

I actually have the crank (bought as the BB30 option - doesn’t seem to be a standalone PF30 version) but haven’t offered it up yet. In the box there is the large spacer but the ones highlighted in green (in the above manual) don't appear to be included. The bb shell width is approximately 7.4mm

BB30/PF30 are interchangeable terms for SRAM cranks as far as I'm aware. I've run two different sets of wmfg pf30 bbs with SRAM cranks and they work just fine.

Thanks Davros.

On the Wiggle Q&A there is a question about whether the xx1 crank BB30 will work in a PF30. The ‘staff’ answer said it would only work in a BB30 but other sources seem to suggest it will be fine. I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be compatible.
