First commute ride into work today wearing the new reflective Gilet and all I can say is wow it's bright, but damn it's warm. 100% Polyester makes for not a very breathable garment.

Shame really, as I was hoping for something much lighter and not "boil in the bag"

I suspect it is great for short commutes, but if you commute a fair distance and want to push on I think you will find it a little too warm.

I think they have missed a trick here. I would have preffered to have an ultra light gilet that offers no wind or rain protection, but is bright.

That's just my opinion, but would love to hear what others think if they have one.

Sam Browne RF belts are very visible and highly breathable but less fashionable : )

Full RF fabric clothing will never be very breathable unless it has a lot of small holes or vents. They're really effective though, was watching a load of commuters pass by in London this week and the RF jackets were very noticeable.

The Evans and Boardman versions claim to have better venting and/or mesh, but this has always been the problem with these so far. The reflective bit is world class, but unless you have a short commute or just take it steady, the boil in the bag factor is unpleasant.

I got slagged off on another Proviz thread but I find Altura Night Vision a better balance between breathability and reflective, but still pretty warm, to be fair.

When I looked at the Gilet online, I thought the dots on the fabric were tiny holes, eg more of a mesh fabric. This isn't the case and explains the lack of breathability. I think I'll stick it on ebay.

I'll have a look at the endura and boardman offerings. Is there a fabric mesh version?

I've got a Mavic Vision gilet from a few years ago when they made EN certified hi-viz cycling tops, Its pretty good, and has a mesh back - although the jacket is way too warm for me and is also boil-in-the-bag. Anyone tried the PixElite ones? Meant to be a lot more breathable.

What size is it? Might be interested if it's a medium/large small

I got a waterproof gilet that had mesh sides, but it still wasn't very breathable, so I got a pair of scissors and cut lots of holes out the back. It made a bit of difference & now I use it all the time.
Just because someone designed something may maybe suitable for some people, but not all, don't be afraid to modify it to suit your own needs.
