Last night my eldest and I went to Trac Mon on Anglesey for the 5th (of 7) round of the Welsh Cycling Go-Race Junior Road Race Series. Each round consists of an ITT, a skillz test (weaving in and out of cones, riding between them, ducking under poles, dropping things off in boxes and track-stands) and a lapped circuit / crit race.
He races in the U6 category and last night wrapped up the series, taking the win in all 3 disciplines. It's his first "season" of racing his bike with slick tyres on it, having done 2 cyclocross seasons in the North West League before hand. Of the 5 round he's raced he's won every crit race, 4 of the ITT's, he got lost in the 1st one, and 4 of the skillz tests.
Last night in the crit race they put the U6 & U8 together, with the U8 setting off first and the U6 about 30-40 seconds later, like a red rag to a bull he set off after the bigger boys and girls and ended up coming a close 5th overall and taking the U6 win, even better considering all of the U8 are on 24" or 26" wheeled bikes and he's on his dinky 20" wheeled one.
If he carries on like this, my days are done in a few years as I won't be catching him. Oh yeah, if he know's you're taking his photo he doesn't do smiling!

AWESOME!
Well done to him! Great result.
