Sorry, any excuse to post a pic of my new bike 😎 (awaiting final steerer tube chopping).

I've heard this particular Basso paint is quite prone to chipping, but going by my efforts to apply the fancy Basso chainstay protector, I wouldn't fancy trying to cover most of the frame in heli-tape 🙄

Moon on a stick I guess but is there a thinner/more supple type of heli-tape that would still preserve the lovely matt finish?

Am chasing distributor for touch up paint but apparently it's very difficult to import...

Can't you just get a normal wrap. Invsi-frame and the like?

That cable routing looks in a very odd location to enter the downtube, and looks like and absolute prime spot to rub or the paint away even with 10 layers of plastic !

Yeah, I wasn't in love with that detail, although I took the time to make sure the silver Shimano lettering on the cables was at the exact same point on each cable, facing up, just before the downtube entry, so at least there's a little bit of bling on display 😎 Actually very little cable in contact with paintwork there and I've used those rubber 'clip on' cable protectors rather than any sort of tape on frame.

OK thanks, I'd heard the name but not really checked out the website. Still a wee bit put off by how thick it sounds, you'll definitely 'see' where the tape starts and finishes, and I've never managed to apply tape on frames or components without bubbles etc. but I guess there isn't really any other choice.

See the "Invisi" bit in their name...It's a clue. You can see it if you're close and you know it's there to look, otherwise, it's fit and forget.

OK OK, point taken.

Have already dropped a set of allen keys on the top tube and wanged the down tube when a BB spanner slipped, I feel like I'm living on borrowed time!

Main issues will be that cable run at the front. Get some gloss or matt 3M heli tape, cut to size and apply to rubbing areas - bear in mind when turning bars, and see where contact points are - grubby cables soon make a mess of paint. Also check chain stay is well protected. You don't really need any other protection, just any where cables 'could' rub.

Invisiframe do a pack of protection patches that work well for head tube cable rub, I have some on my road bike, where they remain pretty much 'invisible', much better than generic heli tape.  My mtbs always get fully Invisiframed, properly applied the stuff is fantastic, head tube aside I don't see the need on my road bike as the tape doesn't cover the most high risk areas to pick up scuffs (aero rims and lever ends).

Looks very lovely - following as also need to do some frame protection.

On the off-topic discussion those oval chainrings look like AbsoluteBlack? Very nice. Have been using some AbsoluteBlack supercompact (46/30) for the alps, and they have been excellent for knees, and faultless in terms of fitting and front derailleur changes

The drivetrain came off my old bike so they're actually about 7000km old! As per Susepic, the actual function of the rings has been impeccable, good shifting, quiet in use, negligible wear.

I *think* I noticed a difference in pedalling when I first fitted them, spinning certainly felt a wee bit smoother. It isn't so significant though that I notice when I jump back on a bike with normal rings, and on that basis sadly I probably wouldn't pony up for oval again.

BUT if you fancy them and can afford them then why not, I was certainly very happy when I realised I could sway them on to the new chainset I had bought for this build 👍
