Hermitage Mountain Biking Trail EdinburghWe have been working hard to complete a feasibility study of the site and a sustainable proposal for the area. This would include a brand new eco friendly building, mountain bike trail, frisbee golf, crazy golf, maintain the beginners golf course and ensure dog walkers are kept happy! On top of this we have been working to ensure that all of these developments will meet the aims of Autism Initiatives, which is to provide people with Autism opportunities to receive work experience and placements.
The proposed trails include a jump park as well as green, blue and red trails with the longest loop being approximately 5km.
I am sure you will appreciate that any large scale development project like this takes time, but we are still aiming for this site to become a reality and would greatly appreciate if you could take 5 minutes of your time to complete the below survey.
Filled it in with all the correct yes answers. Very much doubt it'll happen though. Hermitage dog walkers will be up in arms.
I went along to the mtb consultation for this last year (along with loads of other STWers I remember), they're very enthusiastic and basically seem to want to be convinced- it's quite nice in that it's not purely biker led as a lot of these projects are, the charity wants to make better use of their ground and draw more people in so it doesn't feel like a rider's pipedream. Rik of Drumlanrig was doing the design etc. Fingers crossed!
Ace! - Hope it goes ahead.
I filled out the survey.
good. used to go for great little spins around Hermitage BITD..
Filled in the survey
Cannot say too much, but being a Head Greenkeeper the word on the street-via Reps is there is talks in progress and plans for a MTB trail centre on the top side of the now closed Lothianburn Golf course 😉
The lower 9 holes of the course are now being maintained by the neighbouring Swanston Golf Club. Prob with the plan to expand their training facilities.
How cool would some proper trail centre stuff near Edinburgh be? 🙂
beat the awfull drive down to the Tweed Vally!
Filled in. More trails can only be a good thing. interesting questions as well about bike shop and cafe. Only concern would be bike theft.
Done. Glad to hear this is still a possibility, when I saw pictures of the crazy golf I thought maybe the trails weren't going to happen.
Hermitage dog walkers will be up in arms.
It's on the land here http://www.hermitagescotland.co.uk/ , not down in the hermitage itself. Rik's managed to get a lot of trail into the small area, skills bits and plans for two pump tracks. The hermitage dog walkers will continue to be able to leave their dog turds on public paths or hanging in bags in trees and on gates without being interrupted by bikers.
my main thoughts at the kick off meeting were the rich people in the big houses objecting to yoofs enjoying themselves and being healthy nearby and possibly expressing joy vocally.
Having a pump track and some kind of off road riding in town would be sweeeeeet
Survey done.
Is there any info online about this, plans etc.? Interested to see what is proposed.
I might be able to help if advice is needed on noise issues too.
Whatever happened to the short trails they talked about setting up in Holyrood Park near St Leonards Sports Centre?
At least they're not surrounded by houses so that may help. I also think there will be a lot of families in the area that will be up for it. I have some customers in that area with kids that like the idea, hopefully it happens before the kids grow up.
