Morning chaps
I'm in need some advice about Prophet front mechs.
I recently bought an old prophet frame off eBay. It was pretty neglected state including a seized shock but bringing it back to life was surprisingly pleasurable.
However in my excitement I hadn't noticed that there was no BB extension plate for the e-type mech.
I tried to fit an old bottom pull mech of a Jekyll but it fouls the middle ring no matter how high up on the seat tube I fit it.
Is it possible to fit a seat clamp front mech or do I have to hunt down a BB plate?
Any real world advice gratefully received.
I found e-types unreliable (long term), so moved to a SLX top swing mech for my Prophet, it definitely fits & works with my XT triple set. Still not as good/reliable as a conventional mech (IMO), but they won't fit.
Most mech's are now dual pull (top or bottom), so telling us it a bottom pull doesn't actually tell us if your old mech's "top swing" or "conventional" (which as said, won't fit)
Cheers z1ppy. Either way it definitely won't work so I'll need a new mech (or new knees if I keep riding it in 1x9 mode!)
Do you know the product code for your SLX mech, or is there only one.
Can't remember which I bought, whatever 9 speed SLX was a couple of years back, but any "top swing" should work, such as XT M770 on CRC (other shops are available)
PS: Just replaced my 1x10 for 2x10, as my knee's definitely didn't like "1x" (different bike)
Ok, I will have a morning online hunt to see what I can get my hands on. That's for your quick advice.
Everything Zippy said.
I put a top swing double specific SLX on mine - much better than E type. It's supposedly for ten speed too, works fine with my 9 speed set up.
I have an slx one you can have cheap. It's like brand new but doesn't fit my new frame. 😉
