My seat post is 31.8mm, the seat tube is 34.8mm so, I'm buying a qr clamp for it, will the clamp I need be measured for the post or the tube? I think the answer may be obvious but I'd rather look like a plank in front of people I don't know and can't see me, than my Mrs who will blatantly point and laugh in my face when I order the wrong one.

Done exactly the same thing once before, always talk about seat tube and not the clamp. Prob the 34.9 to go round the diameter of the tube.
