anyone have any experience of problem with Rockshox dual pos coil spring?
this is a pari of sektors, slightly franken-forked as fork was originally 140 air, converted to dual pos spring, with rebound damper and spring from 150mm coils
this could be the root of my problems as spring assembly is a little squised to get it in, though only 4mm as rebound damper allows for 146mm of travel fully extended.
so anyway first the dual pos mechanism gets stuck in high (thankfully). this seems to be caaused by the little machine screw on the side which does the work for the knob on top getting jammy. couldnt see much i could do about that. any ideas if it is indded this or what could fix this?
secondly, and this may render the first problem immaterial, i now only have about 50% travel before coming up agains a definate stop. i'mm assuming it's spring realted also, and no, i haven't had them apart yet, so could conceivably be compression damper i spose. but yes, before i find time to dismantle them, does anyone have any idea what could be going on?
if spring needs asssembly needs replacing it's not the end of the world, they're about 40 euros. do these sound like dual position weaknesses and should i therefore just go for a regular spring next time for peace of mind?
I've got a similar frankenfork. Not had a problem with it for years. Can't help with the 1st problem, but the second sounds more like the seal on the damper has blown. Google "fork hydrolock" and you should see. The damping oil has moved from the upper to the lower leg and acts as a stop.
ahh great, sounds obvious now i hear it!
yep must be that. easy fix then
ok so yeh, blocking is of hydrolock nature as you said warpcow, but oil is not in the lowers; just the normal 6ml in either side as expected. but it's deffy not spring related.
so when i had lowers off, i pushed on the rebound damper foot and it stopped short.
but how do i isolate whether is the compression or rebound damper that's at fault?
they would both appear to let oil through in the compression direction (when i blow through them).
i have spare rebound dampers so i guess i could try bunging one of them in.
on compression, does the rebound damper both move through the oil, and push some of the oil up into the compression damper, at a controlled rate?
it would seem to be behaving as if there's simply too much oil in the leg, but i would've noticed that straight away...
