I brought a Citroen C5 less than two weeks ago. Yesterday I break down, ESP/ABS warning lights, the engine management system cuts all the power.
Its with my local mechanic to evaluate whats up, I brought it from a Dealer, (2.4k)
Once I know whats up I will be speaking to the dealer, Just wondering what rights I have before I make the call....
@rse, wrong forum, sorry
TJ will be along soon but you should give the supplying dealer an opportunity to fix and if they can't/won't then you can get your money back.
If its from a dealer youre sorted - relax
Private sale = no rights at all
This is the top hit from Google - theres plenty more
Can I get my money back though ?
I brought a Citroen C5
There's the problem.
Take it back to where you got it from and give them a chance to sort it for you.
Usually on here when a consumer rights thread appears, it is filled with ill informed rubbish and you will end up more confused.
Seriously, guve these people a call who will not only advise you on your civil rights, but will suggest the best way to solve a dispute.

Cheers iamsporticus.. I have been looking about, I wanted the STW voice of impressing knowledge to confirm what I thought....
Cant fault the car apart from this problem, huge estate, all the gadgets you could want. I ride everywhere and just needed something good enough to ferry bikes to and from rides....

Often the problem with google
You are liable for any costs incurred with your mechanic checking it out. You should contact the seller immediately to inform him of the problem and ask what he wants to do. You must give him the chance to repair the vehicle before you can do anything else.
My chap is just taking a look, he is going to do no more than plug into the diagnostics to see whats up.
I too bought a Citroen and hadproblems basically take it back to the dealer be nice- firm but fair and you should be ok.
Brought: Past tense of bring (to carry or lead along). Laura brought a cherry pie to the picnic.
Bought: Past tense of buy (to obtain by paying money). Practical Matt bought a Citroen C5.

Unfortunately things go wrong , its not the Dealers fault , you should really give them a call to log it and give them chance to fix (I don't forsee a problem) . IMPORTANT - make sure your friend doesn't clear the codes because if the car doesn't bring them up again the dealer will see a car with no faults !
To be fair the RAC cleared them yesterday is an attempt to get me moving again, they must have to account for that.
It has thrown up loads more errors since the RAC tried.
If it keeps bringing the same codes up thats fine , but if its intermittant or brings odd ones up , its hard to diagnose , either way I'm sure you'll be fine with the dealer , they'll have be given a fair chance to fix it , if you don't make headway speak to the service manager, then the dealer principal, then trading standards . Be calm and be fair and you'll get a better response .
Right....
Its been bloody ages but.....
I am picking it up today, the Dealer ended up having to get a Citroen Dealer to swap out the management system and fit a new cam belt as that was also found to be on its way out.
Apart from asking for half of the cost of the cam belt (£150) which I am still yet to decide about its all supposedly sorted.
We shall see, I have kinda lost faith in the car a little, inshallah !
Its been an experience, doing all the shopping for a family of four on my bikes with just a rucksack. I even managed to get a crate of beer home for a bbq on the weekend.

good god man - do they not have Ocado where you live!
The nearest village is only 2 miles away, twas a case of MTFU
Get rid of the thing. I'd bet 50p it was the BSI that went wrong - multiplexed body computer. The electrics on the multiplexed PSA kit at the moment is a joke.
I've been thinking the same, once you looth faith in a motor its hard to relax, I'll be expecting problems all the time now.....
So..
I spend hours riding and getting the train there to be told its not actually fixed.
The dealer takes me to the Citroen place where he has taken it, leaves me there do try and sort it all out.
Keeps phoning asking me what I have done about it, I explain that I am not doing anything until he gets back, its between him and the Citroen place, I just want my car sorting.
He turns up, says he will sort it and goes to get me a car I can borrow in the meantime.
His "mate" turns up ages later with an old, dented heap of a car, needing a lift home from me ! Dealer is now keeping a very low profile ...
In the end the Dealer phones saying he will pay whatever the Citroen place say it will cost (approx £450 for a new oxygen sensor ?)
In the end I drop the "mate" home, and end back up the M3...
The crappy old car he had lent me then breaks down !!!!! I manage to repair it after a fun time on the hard shoulder....
Get home hours later with an old banger which only just runs, needs new brake pads, clutch, windows done open etc etc......
Suddenly, the thought of taking out the engine to change a £14.50 bearing in the midget doesnt seem to bad!
