Hi there folks!
I'm hearing a slight click noise from my bottom bracket so I'm looking to remove the cranks and clean everything out.
The problem is it's the first time I'm doing this and despite all the videos I've seen, none of them seem to cater for my case.
I'm able to remove the 8mm allen nut from both the drive-side and non-drive side, but that's all I'm able to do.
I have a crank removal tool where one piece screws into another but the internal part does nothing because there is no spindal in the bottom bracket to press up against.
I've uploaded some photos to dropbox. Let me know if they're not accessible.

Thanks!!
That's an Octalink BB, i'm guessing you've got a square taper crank removal tool. A quick fix is to use a 5p piece on the axle if you haven't got an insert/adaptor for it.
That's an Octalink bottom bracket. Your crank tool is probably for a square taper BB and has a smaller button to push on the spindle, You can use a coin in the hole in the crank arm to push on the splined shaft. Experiment with a few different sizes of coin.
Just as above
Just make sure you remove the thin washer that should be behind the bolt on each arm
Your photos are broken.
Sounds like you have a splined "Octolink" BB. You need to have a larger diameter head on the tool so it does not go down the centre of the spindle.

You need to either get a new tool or an adaptor.
Thanks a lot guys. It all seems so easy when someone explains what's going on.
Something I forgot to ask was - when I get the cranks off, do I need any special tool to remove the actual bottom bracket?
yup. A BB removal tool.

I use a QR wheel skewer to keep it engaged into the BB when applying a bit of welly. Remember drive side is a left hand thread (someone confirm that please)
Yes, left is right and right is left.
If you do the coin thing, use two 5 pence pieces, one will just bend, then you have a new problem on your hands!
Thanks a lot guys!
Whats your shop of choice?
Of the ones I have used (Wiggle, merlincycles, chainreaction, probikeshop) I only found them in the last 2: chainreaction and probikeshop...

Any other suggestions of where to buy?
If you have a crank puller you just need this
I got a crank extractor (sq taper size so do the 2x5p trick) and a BB tool in a £20 cheap tool kit from lidl or aldi. Same as you can get in other places.
Okay they are not the best tools in the world but it has let me learn how to fix bikes without going out and spending lots.
