You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Trying to do as above, followed the instructions from Strava - copied the file into the Garmin/gpx folder on the pc - but the route doesn't appear when I go to Training, courses on the actual Garmin. Can't see what I'm doing wrong - anyone got any ideas?
Are you pasting it into the 'new activities' folder? That is where the Garmin will load it from (on my Touring at any rate).
And when you say the garmin folder on the computer, you do of course mean the folders on the garmin which you are merely viewing via Windows Explorer?
Yes, I do mean the windows explorer :-). I don't see a 'new activities' folder though (think that's models later than the 605). Oh well, thanks for replying though.
If it's a "course", doesn't it have to be a .TCX file and not a .GPX file? The latter is used for "routes" (judging by my 705).
I have had this problem. It is caused by the GPX file not originating from a Garmin device/site. I assume you created a route elsewhere that you would like to follow?
Open your GPX file in a text editor (Notepad etc) and also open a GPX file that you have exported from your Garmin (via Garmin Connect, Strava etc). Copy and paste the top couple of lines (everything above "<trk>") from the Garmin generated file and replace the equivalent lines in your file. Save and try again. Worked for me anyway.
Ignore the other posts. You're looking in the wrong place for the route - go to 'where to', then 'saved rides'. That's where it will be.
If you have any problems with it displaying correctly, convert it on Gpsies.com from a GPX track to a GPX route.
That ^ depends on whether you want a Course or a Route.

Cheers d45yth - it was in Where To. Not sure I will be able to follow it as a course though. Might have a go at converting it.
Scotroutes - will take a look at the link as well.
It's also worth checking if you can that the route hasn't been compressed - I've found in the past that downloading from some sites provides a very simplified route that doesn't really follow the trail. Or worse still, it's set up as a 'route' rather than a 'track' and only follows the waypoints.
All sorted now - used gpsies.com to convert the .gpx file to a .tcx file and loaded that into the Garmin and it now appears as a course.
Thanks, all.
You're welcome
