You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
guys,
Hoping someone can impart some wisdom!
So, I have a tubeless setup - Schwalbe Nobby Nics on Mavic SLR rims using Stans sealant. This was originallly done by my LBS - So, I have just purchased new tyres and am attempting to do the intall myself - but am stuck!
I have the new tyre on the rim, and have used soapy water to help lubricate tyre/rim, and have been trying to inflate - but I guess I cannot get the bead of the tyre to sit up against the rim of the weheel if that makes sense?
Can anyone advise on methods on how to get this sorted pretty pls!
Im running nobby nick evo ust's on mavic crossmax st's without any sealant and haven't had any problems so far. you just have to pump fast initially to expand the tire onto the outer rim. make sure your tire is sitting in the middle of the rim in the groove as that creates a seal during the first pumps and helps to pop it out into its final position.
Failing that take it to a garage and use their compressor.

I spent three days (feels like) trying to get my Maxxis Advantage's (non tubeless) to seat on WTB Laserdisc Trail wheels. Nothing could work. New track pump, car compressor (not high enough pressure, you need a serious compressor), soapy water, leaving a tube in overnight.
I made this in fifteen minutes (though I found an old track pump head and put it on the end first) and first try went POP and seated.
I guarantee satisfaction.
Brand new tyre? If it's a folding bead, try inflating it with a tube in and leaving up overnight so the bead loses any crinkles it may have had. Then deflate and take the inner tube out while only unseating the bead on one side. The seated bead should help the other side go up much more easily.
If you still have problems after that, try wrapping a strap/bungee cord round the outside of the tyre (pressing along the centre line and into the well of the rim). This will reduce the volume and again help make things easier. Revert to CO2/compressor/swearing as required.
Oh, and you are taking the core out of the valve to get it seated aren't you?
Use the strap method on new tyres. Also what mrGreedy says
Hi I do the soapy water and track pump method for my tubless tyres. You need to take the valve insert out to get the air in as fast as possible and it's best with a very good track pump (Specialized for me). This week I found that I had to put 45psi in to get only of my Schwalbe tyres to pop onto my Crest rims.
If new as McGreedy says install with a tube first. It it is a loose fitting bead like Panaracers then good luck.
