About to convert my CX bike to tubeless. Got a stans conversion kit and an inflation device (specialized airshot knock off) was planning on using my existing tyres which are WTB Nano 40s.

However, I've just noticed they aren't the TCS version. 🙄 So before I waste an afternoon, and probably get sealant everywhere unnecessarily, do I need to shell out and get some actually tubeless ready tyres too?

Thanks in advance!

The answer you might have to and you might not. Most tyres will go up tubeless but whether they stay up and can cope with your weight while riding a number of miles is a different matter. Try it and see.

Thanks jekkyl, I figured that the standard STW response of "it depends" might well be the case! 😀

If I didn't have to commute on it too I wouldn't be asking. I guess if I try it today I can revert it tomorrow if they deflate overnight. To that end can I get away with converting the rims and sticking tyres on without sealant to see if they stay up? Or is that a follow up foolish query?

FYI (mostly my own) you can't inflate them properly without sealant. But they are holding pressure now with sealant. Hopefully tomorrow morning it'll be the same!
