Help a chap out, I am super confused about compatibility.
I have this crank SLX M7100 12 speed. I aim to use it as a single ring 1 x 11 set up, I bought the slx 12 speed chain ring too.

https://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-slx-m7100-12-speed-crankset

a) Will it work with 11 speed chain, cassette, shifter etc..
ii) Literature recommends BB MT800 bottom bracket, which is the XT one. However I have in my spares drawer 2 x BB52 , will these work? I'm not a cheapskate but I don't have much use for these BB's otherwise.

TIA

they are all hollowtech II so no problem as they are all BSA threaded 68/73mm

the BB52 Deore has regular size cups (silver in colour) (so use a regular shimano TL-FC32 spanner or park BBT-9)

the black cupped MT800 BB will just have the smaller diametre cups where you need a plastic adaptor TL-FC25 to fit on the regular shimano BB tool (16 notches 44m diametre) or get a TL-FC41 (which has same notches as on the 12s chainring direct mount lock)

wow £30 each, i paid £8-12 on 3 i have in my spares bin :0)

i've done similiar research and fitment this weekend; swapping an XT and BB52 from one to another bike and putting an MT800 /XTR on.. works fine.
note spacer goes on driveside.

in terms of the chainring i cant comment, probably be alright as its got a narrow/wide profile would be my thought

no problem, it seems to be a minefield. was researching at the weekend as could do with a proper spanner, as my current one is made of cheese

only difference is cup size on the MT800 for XT/SLX & BB92 for XTR is smaller, circa 40mm.

hence the need for the plastic adaptor, or a new tool (that is worth the money as it matches on the 12s chainring lockring)

the BB80 Saint // BB52 Deore are regular sized cups = 44mm 16 notch cups

TL-FC41 (which has same notches as on the 12s chainring direct mount lock

FYI My crank came with this tool in the box.

ah ok, i read a rant on here last week that they'd bought the XT crankset (OEM) and no tool..

BB52 ?, cheapskate 🤣, personally I use the Lezyne bb tool that fit a socket wrench, much better than the spanner types, I prefer using the plastic adapter for mt800 so it doesn't mark up the black cups.

Whatyadoinsucka, if you're referring to me it wasn't OEM, I wouldn't use tl-fc41 on the MT800 bb, the splines are a tad shallow imo so could chew up a stubborn removal. The tools that go on 1/2 or 3/8 socket wrench like the lezyne mentioned above are the best for bottom brackets

I am running a 12-speed SLX crank set on my hard tail with 11-speed cassette, chain, rd and shifter without any problems.
Crack on, I say.

I am on fitting now, I assume the crank handles the boost part.
I have a 73mm bottom bracket shell, so just one 2.5mm spacer on the drive side?

Depending on the frame it's going on and chainring size, be careful to watch the clearance on the chain stay when installing the crank.

I've had a few that were too tight with a 34T ring and it is so easy to take a chunk out of the frame very quickly if you don't spot it.
