I recently ordered some Pro2 wheels and need to get a cassette - after reading this thread I figure I need one with an alloy carrier. Does the SLX fit the bill or will I have to shell out for XT?

I'd go for XT myself...SLX does have an alloy carrier but only for the 3 largest cogs unlike on the XT which has the 6 largest cogs on the carrier

Hmmm, £50+ for a steel freehub which weighs almost twice as much as the alloy one, or an extra tenner for a cassette. XT it is then!

An XT cassette will still mark the freehub

My XT cassette has marked my Pro 2 hub. I don't think there's a way around it really. It's going to get marked whatever you use..

So what cassettes *won't* f*ck up the freehub then?

Edit - just seen Martyn's post. In that case surely it doesn't really matter what cassette you use at all?
