I'm getting a new bike soon and I've narrowed my choice down to two, the Specialized FSR XC Expert and the Trek Fuel EX 6.5
One has an X Fusion rear shock with lockout, the other has a Fox RP2 with Pro Pedal.
As I'm new to the world of Full Suss, which is best or is it horses for courses ?
Pointless post as I've not tried propedal, but... I have an 09 FSR XC Expert. First full suss for me after 20 years riding hardtail so I can't comment on pro pedal. Took a while to get the pressure and damping just right on the rear shock but I love it now. I used to use the lockout sometimes on long climbs but to be honest I don't bother much anymore. I'd usually forget to turn it off again at the top and then fly down the other side of the hill with the shock still locked.
Personally I find climbing fine with the shock fully active. It took me a while to change my style from stomping at the pedals like pistons to sitting down and turning smooth circles but once I'd done that it was all good.
I think there are few circumstances where you actually want to lock your rear shock, more useful to keep it moving a bit, so I'd say Pro Pedal.
spesh,
I had narrowed my choice to these 2 models and opted for the Trek 6.5 in the end. Had it a week and am really enjoying it. My first FS and the rear suspension is so subtle (but effective) that you forget its there. It is nice having a little give in the rear shock when in Pro-Pedal mode though.
Regards,
Matt.
Pro pedal for me
I had an RP2 on my NRS and the PP setting was just right to give a bit of give while removing the bob for climbs.
Conversely, I leave the setting on open on my Meta as it works fine
had my basic fox air can custom valved by mojo and i can safely say it is the best money i have spent on the bike.
my fox triad shock has PP and lockout.
I never use the lockout, PP most of the time and occassionally remember to open it right up for a fun bit.
I've never really got into using my pro pedal on my stumpy. But as its subjective, probably worth going for the option if there's no difference in price.
