I've just realised my new bike comes with a 148*12 rear. My newly bought Hope wheels are 142*12 oops

So, this type of kit?

The smaller one? No idea, not mentioned in the description and don't remember one in my Pro2 Evo kit (which has been fit and forget).

The hope kit doesn't require a redish bot does not put the cassette in the optimal position. Wolftooth boosinator and fun works pro 4 kits are proper end cap solutions and put the cassette in the proper place. Both would require a redish. The last one is a load of annoying spacers.

^and wot be says. I don't care about cassette position as mine is a single speed setup which I should have mentioned.

“The hope kit doesn’t require a redish bot does not put the cassette in the optimal position.“

What is the optimal position though? Depends on the chain ring position - and I’d argue that MTB gears work better with the chain line closer to the biggest sprocket than the smallest socket.

The optimal position is "as close to the derailleur hanger as possible". The Hope kit pushed the range of my X01 derailleur to its maximum, I had to space out the jockey wheels a bit in order to get consistent shifting to the large sprocket.

No problems with that Hope kit and GX Eagle on my bike!

The 'one sided' kits that push the cassette out to the boost position (and require a re-dish) will be more likely to achieve this. It gives the option of running boost crank set to give a standard boost chain line, or a non-boost crank set (if it clears the chain stays) to give a chain line closer to the large cassette sprockets, which as you say can often work better.

The Hope (or two washers) kits that leave the wheel central keeping the cassette more inboard in the non-boost position will need a non-boost crank set to keep the standard non-boost chain line.

I had the same issue as OTSDR with getting the mech onto the biggest sprocket.
I put a spacer on behind the cassette, which just about sorted it.
Ideally I prob try and move/space the chainring inward a little to help as well.
