I’m building To myself a road bike with a few sale items I’ve been gathering but have hit a bit of a snag, prime wheels seemed like a good choice so picked up a set of the 50mm carbon ones. I’ve come to a halt though as they come with qr fittings rather than the 12mm thru axles I need (100 & 142) unfortunately these are out of stock at both CRC and wiggle. I believe these are novatec hubs but have no idea which ones, any of you solved this issue and can offer some help?

Evening,

I've got these:

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/prime-pro-disc-road-wheelset/rp-prod142940#

With the RD010 hubs front and rear - are they the same as yours?

The front hub caps should just pull off - I've got spare 12mm and 15mm caps you can have. I've also got a spare rear axle with the end cap (looks like a top hat) for the 142 x 12 setup - a mate's got it at the moment, but should be able to get my hands on it over the weekend. Happy to send them on to you.

They've not had the converters in stock for a long time. I was planning to buy a pair of wheels but as I need the qr axles and the wheels I want only come in thru axle i had the opposite problem to the op.

So daz if you are going to acquire a set of thru axles and have no need for your qrs I may take them off your hands if the price is right.

Can't do a straight swap for the thru axles that will come with my set as they haven't got them in stock at the moment!

If Daz if up for it, perhaps we can do some 3 way (ish) thing - I'll send the thru-axle stuff to Daz, his own to you and you pop a donation in a charity. Wheel karma (or something like that) 🙂

I literaly just changed my Prime R020 centrelock rear hub from 12x142 to 135 QR the other day

You need a Novatec D792 axle, but it MUST be the centrelock or 6 bolt version to match your hub as the non driveside cap is different.

I will sell my 142x12 Centrelock axle if you want it new and unused? I paid £25 delivered for the QR axle - the centre lock axles are mosre expensive (less common) than the 6 bolt ones (about £15 on ebay/aliexpress).

Argh we could have done a straight swap

My prime r020 hub:

Novatec D792-CL

You see they are the same, the freehub on the prime is the top spec road 11spd with novatec Anti Bite Guard hence why its black.

Ok just getting back on now, I have the wheels with prime R020 centrelock hubs, happy to send on the qr setup to anyone for a swop, I’m not sure they are the same as the R010 though.

I think I’ve located the front ones, just need the rear really (12x142)

Wiggle had them for sale at £7.49, always out of stock but someone selling them on eBay for £25!!

Slight hijack but I'd be interested to hear views on whether these wheels are any good.

I got them as a few riders I know have been using them for quite some time and never had any issues. The sealing in the hubs isn’t as complex as some but bearings are easy to change so no big deal in my opinion. Rims do what rims are supposed to do and only a very slight weight disadvantage over wheels three times the price.

I’m building myself a nice De Rosa and would have loved bora wheels but just can’t justify the price for almost no gain in reality.

Cheers Daz, they seem to be at the bottom of a steep curve of diminishing returns. As you say, you can get marginally better but can spend £££'s doing so. The only time I will ever ride a set of Zipps or Lightweights is on Zwift.

I had the rim brake rr 50s and they are brilliant. I can't believe you can pick them up for 440 quid.

Daz your cheapest new option is here I think:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32851777627.html

Or make me an offer for the rear axle I removed - its new never mounted to a bike.

Daz is that the De Rosa frame crc have for £1200 you're building up. Nearly bought one but none in my size.

Akira, that’s the one yeah, the 54 measures up the same as my KTM 55 so I’d say they are about a size bigger than normal.

Wzzz I will drop you a message if A trained monkey I know doesn’t have one kicking about his (extensive) workshop!

Interestingly I think these are the same hubs

Daz, I think you are right that they are the same Novatec hubs as Hunts.

I had the rim brake rr 50s and they are brilliant. I can’t believe you can pick them up for 440 quid.

Glad to hear it. I've just order these for £430 (including Hutchinson Fusions and tubes) from Wiggle. They're the updated version with the 19mm internal rim width. They have the pretty gopping hollowgram decals but they easily come off apparently.

I can confirm after some workshop raiding and tinkering that they have the same hubs as the hunt 4 season v1, so anybody looking these axles hunt are the place to go.

I got the wheels with the gopping decals and they are growing on me when I see them fitted, I think I will keep them on for a while (maybe)

I've not read the whole thread I'm afraid, but I have a spare set of QR inards for front and rear Prime Race Disc hubs, and a pair of new 15mm adapter for a front. If anyone's interested please PM me!
