Amongst my frames is a grade 5 ti but its got a crack, or split rather right on the extended part of the seat tube, due to to long a post and too thin a clamp, so I reckon pivoted on that point.
The seat tube extends some 30mm above the top tube/stay/post junction and the split is about 14mm below the top, so a good 15mm above that junction. Its not a long split, about 10 or 12mm.
Thing is its been like that and in use for the last 8 years and hasnt done anything untoward. Im using a deep bmx clamp, which covers the split. Was thinking of finding a short length of 32mm tubing, splitting that and welding on mounts for a bolt, just never got around to it.
If it were to cut the top of the tube off completely, there would likely still be enough to fit a clamp, but I fear that clamping about on the welds will cause them to crack.
The frame is apparently the introduction show bike for one of the interbike shows, to show the makers work etc etc. The company is or was DNA, if anyone remembers them 😕 Mirror polished and obviously the best welding theyre capable of, given its an exhibition piece, and all welds dressed down beautifully.
Im selling everything beyond my cove to help fund the Emtb(likely one of these or similar(Jam2 6.8 Nine or a Giant 2020 Trance E+ 2 Pro or Giant Reign E+ 2 Pro.)
How much could i reasonably be expected to price it at 😕 given its 6al/4v disc only which normally costs a bomb.
I did get it for a song, but given the material, the quality work, I hope its worth a fair amount.
Any ideas or even suggestions ? 🙂
Assuming it's not modern geometry and it's not a desirable classic (less so because it's broken ) probably not all that much.
Better pic I hope 🙂 I was runn9ing 120mm fork, and it was fine and level on the chainstays.
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah really not a lot.
No matter how unproblematic it has been, it is cracked, out of date, and not old enough to be on the up.
