Today I got home from work to find issue 153 had arrived! Always a lovely treat and that’s the 153 time I’ve had this particular treat through my letter box.
It’s possible that it was a little late, but I saw on another thread that some one got theirs yesterday. So i think I’m in the normal range for getting 153? The exact day it arrives isn’t a big deal
@chipps and @stwHannah could you please not post links to magazine articles on the home page until you’re pretty sure I’ve got my paper copy. I think by the time I’d opened my envelope I knew what 4 or 5 of the articles were and I’ve had to resist clicking on the links since the 9th.
Of course I could have clicked the links and read the articles. But then the magazine arriving isn’t quite so special.
Thanks
John
Simple answer, block ampthill’s access to the site until he ticks a pop up box to confirm he has received his mag. Bingo, everyone is happy 😃
I guess the argument is that online only subscribers shouldn't be short changed, but I do kind of agree

+1
I don't mind being a few days late as long as you paper ludites don't start banging on about shit until a few after You've got the mag!
I’m assuming that online subscribers will get the whole magazine on the day that mine is posted. I don’t even notice that.
I’m talking about the links to individual articles in the home page for those browsing for free

I don't think they are generally available to the free members, mostly subscriber only content. I'd assumed you just didn't want to see them or comments about them before you got your paper copy.
I thought they can only be read by subscribers? If it's just the headlines that are ruining it for you then they're trying to encourage new subscribers, having an empty front page won't exactly help the business
Yes, I just checked. Try logging out @ampthill and see what you see of the articles
@ jamezee
There’s a magazine?
I have enjoyed this joke for what feels like 20 years.
Even now that i subscribe, my guilty secret is I flick through, look at the pictures, put it in the pile with a mental bookmark to return to the gravel/bikepacking/adventure article and then get back to the important business of arguing with people on the internet.
Ok
I tried logging out earlier and still saw the links. But didn’t realise they didn’t link the articles
An option might be for paper subscribers to turn off seeing those links. Like turning off the videos. Or them not going on the home page for a few days. The links could still be present in a subscriber area.

Gave me a proper chuckle - could we edit it down and fit it on a t-shirt?
Sorry you're not keen on the online/offline format @ampthill - although, to be fair, we get a similar amount of complaints from people who subscribe online only and who are always annoyed when the print magazine people are waving the new issue around and talking about what's in the mag. 'Surely it doesn't take that long to put all of the content online?' is their argument. Whatever we do, we probably won't please everyone...
We try to have the online content online around the time that the earliest magazine starts arriving. Hopefully it's sufficiently flagged that you don't accidentally read the whole magazine before you see the real thing.
I don't know what proportion of readers consume the online content via the web stories, or do it via the iPad version. I'll pass this on to @Mark and he can get some numbers.
Most of our digital only subscribers read the online articles. In fact the online articles are more popular than both the PDF download and the app version added together. As others have pointed out, it would be a little unfair on the digital only subscribers if we held their content back until all print copies had been delivered.
To clarify. The online articles are not public. Only full members can read them. The links on the front page are visible to the public however, but if you are not a full member and you click one of the links you will hit the paywall.
If you are a full member and you open one of the magazine articles it will look like this...

If you are not a subscriber it will look like this...

I subscribe, but I haven't read anything in a long time. I just feel like I should supprt the team for the excellent work they do in providing the forum, the fact that there are articles is a bonus
