Came off my bike a few weeks back and last night whilst checking the bike found a pretty large ding / fold in the Rim. They are Crest 29er Hope hoops. There setup tubeless and surprisingly have not lost any air.
Question is, are the rims safe to keep riding ? do you just keep riding them until they fail / loose air ?

A picture would help.

Aside for that a slight flattening of the outer edge of the rim owing to a big rock strike or a bottoming out of the tyre on a curb, rock, root etc should be fine.

What just the one! It'll be fine, its when there are more flat spots/dings than straight bits and you have ran out of thread on the spokes that you need to start thinking about new rims

You aint a peaks rider are you!

chances are if its still sealing fine then it'll be OK but either post pictures or take to a bike shop for advice.

I had a ding in my Crest 26" rims bad enough so that the tyre would not seal and was told bend it out carefully with a adjustable spanner and it'll be fine.

I only start to get concerned when the fold becomes a crack that you can easily shine light through. The price of otherwise replacing dh rims all the time kinda drives you towards this approach though.

yup, that's where I live ! In fact, a lot closer than Oldham 😉

Thanks for advice, will pop it in Shop Matt. I remember on old flows I used pliers to straighten out a big flat and they still sealed.

ta.

you should have used a tyre and tube, protects the rim 😉

Jon is that the Mythical Exploding 29er wheel we have been hearing so much about on this forum?

He's the one. Although in fairness, it was only bent, until i tried to bend it back. And then ride on it. Then it exploded.
