I am reading conflicting reports/advice on this age-old Q.

GCN video says no. Hope video says yes. Other sources a mixture...

Anyone got a definitive source where I can get the answer?? Ta

(It's the Hope PF46 one that screws the two sides together, by the way.)

This was what I was told by the guys at Upgrade Bikes when I asked about how best to fit the BB to my Pivot frame:

I've followed the advice and it's worked perfectly for me with no creaking.

That appears to be for BB30 (or standalone pressed bearings anyway) not pressfit though right? In those cases the bearings need help staying where they are I presume, unlike the Hope one where the two cups are screwed together and can't "walk"...

Nice guide. Nice idea of a fit check tool too.

Basically though, installation with some sort of product, grease for metal/metal and carbon goop for when one surface is carbon, which is probably what I'd do if not told differently

Do I search for "carbon goop" then? 😉

Grease - there are plenty of carbon-compatible ones out there. If you put it in dry, there a risk of creaking.

This very subject did my head in recently! Lol

First carbon build, S/hand Jeffsy, BB92 pressfit.

Long story short... used grease. Carbon friendly Park Tool polylube from CRC.

Nothing has melted as yet. 😉

Park stuff looks alright, I'll get some of that I think cheers.

I do have a miniscule unopened tub of Shimano "Premium" grease somewhere (I intend to treat my Dura Ace hubs one day) any idea if that would be "carbon friendly" anyone?

Sorry bud, really not sure on that grease.

I think the consensus is that most greases are actually ok on carbon.... BUT I wanted to be sure so went for one that is known to be ok on carbon rather than just thought to be ok.

I just didn't want to "risk it" on my first carbon build. Used said grease in headset too, so further reason for me to want to be sure about what I used.:-)

Carbon assembly paste.

Or ptfe tape for my lurcher that is ridiculously loose fit.

Both work fine

I'm pretty sure carbon assembly paste is supposed to be a bad idea on a carbon bb shell?

I am ready to be corrected though. 🙂
