Hi guys,

Need a bit of help.... Got an old Cotic Soul on its way which I'm going to powdercoat. Going to swap my stuff into the frame to try and keep costs down. These are primarily gold hubs, headset, handlebars, bolts. A bit garish but I started riding in the purple anodised heyday.

Any advice on what colour to get the frame sprayed up in? Black would be the obvious choice but I fancy something a bit different. What would you guys go for? I'm quite good at not being great with colours 🙂

Cheers for any help!

I got mine powercoated recently, couldn't decide so got it done two tone! So it has a sparkly red half and sparkly blue half, looks ace. It works as long as the colours are quite dark.

Light blue goes nice with gold. Or brown?

FWIW just had some parts powdercoated BMW Mineral Grey for a customer and it looked absolutely mint, especially when the sunlight catches it.

tomd, that looks fantastic. Where did you get that done and how much?

(I have an old Skool Kona that would benefit from a new paintjob)

ESP in Glasgow. They charge depending on the frame (how much masking etc), but they wanted ex vat £40 for a block colour, £60 for sparkly colours or £90 for multi colour fancy stuff. Not sure how that compares to elsewhere, but they did a good job. Finish was perfect, all threads were properly masked so no prep needed after the paint job.

Tomd that looks brilliant!!! Thanks for posting it up.

I had an old GT timberline back in the early 90's that was a really nice green. Got stolen 🙁 my current Chameleon is a dark blue. Your Nicolai is lovely!!!

I'm reverting now to:

Metallic high gloss green (if its possible)
Metallic duck egg blue (if its possible)
Block red (because anything red goes faster. Even with me aboard)

The guys that did mine at ESP seemed to be able to pretty much any colour, and I think to make it metallic they just chuck some metal powder in the mix. So your options above should be do-able, if you want save ££ the block red will be cheapest.

edit: typo

Blue/magenta linear fade or the green/gold linear fade from the klein attitudes in the early to mid 90s.

Go with a gold front end with a fade to green at the rear, should blend in with your cockpit better than a linear fade.
Black/ gold always a classic combination.

A nice deep red with a glitter lacquer. That would look spot on with the gold bits.

@waller - was this the XL one from a Sheffield seller sold recently?

If so I very nearly had a punt on it myself - was very very tempted by it...

Cheers

Ive got Soul 🙂 Its a good thing to have! Just turned up in the post.

Ive been looking at powdercoated frames in my ahem lunch breaks. The one above looks stunning Unovolo. Ive also seen white with a gold flake.

Too many nice colours, think its got to be metallic now.

the frame came from Scotland dannybegood. Absolutely brilliant! really chuffed at how quick it came through. I just need Chainreaction to deliver new cables and seat quick release so I can build it up for a razz around Stamner park Thursday night before breaking it down again for the respray 🙂

Thanks for all of the posts!!! really helped. Im not good with colour combination. probably how i ended up with gold stuff in the first place 🙂
