Planning to build a hack bike. Buying a cheap s/h frame and already have almost all the bits.

Just wondering if I can use a BB mounted chain device (I have one spare) to tension the chain? Or will that not work as well as having a tensioner mounted at the dropout?

chain devices tend to be a bit noisy, don't they? Apart from that, it seems like a good idea (until you want to take the wheel out)

I used to ride with somebody who had that set-up and it seemed to work fine. I think it's a bit more important to get the chain line straight.

Thanks, it's just a Stinger knock-off (SSC) that I'm thinking of using.

I did exactly that on my Spesh P2, it seemed daft buying a chaintug when I had one on there already. I removed the bash and box guide and just slid the roller up to keep it tidy. I liked it, stealth is key.

cool, cheers for that

is only for carrying daughter to nursery rather than pulling any boom gnarly tricks - so think I'll be fine by sound of it
