howdy folks

quick question, first time i've sold a frame - i offered collection only but have been swayed into postage as the guy seems genuine and is up in scotland so not really feasible drive wise to collect

few questions, ive told him to sort out collection/insurance - i dont want the hassle of it and i said its fine as i can get a box etc as long as its not my responsibility

where would i stand if it went missing/cracked in transit etc?

also what about payment, hes offered to pay via bank transfer, assuming there is no scam that can be done if he does it this way? (i dont think he will, but just covering all bases as ive not done this before for a frame)

any help appreciated 🙂

If he's paid the postage it's his issue regards transit problems, it'll be an issue if he can prove you've not packed it correctly though.

No scams I'm aware of with bank transfer as a payment....

thank you for the reply - appreciated

yeah i would basically take photos of every step pre/during/after packign it up to prove it, possibly even a little video of the whole box

the guy is legit im sure, but its out of our hands once the courier has it

i assume he cant just claim the money back somehow from my bank if anything did happen? or if it was a scam?

I've sold and posted quite a few frames and never had a problem. Get the right insurnace, whack it in a box and post it. Pareclforce are good for frames. If it doesn't turn up claim a refund. Refund him the money when you get the insurance payout, nobody loses. Apart from a bit of faffing....

Get a bike box, package it well, send via parcel force large parcel. Mine was about £65 including £750 of protection. Sold on eBay.

photograph it well before you pack it up and during / after so you have proof of condition beforehand and also of the packaging used

What happens if they say it didn't turn up?

I sold a full bike last week and used ParcelForce Express24 collection (for the 2nd time). Packed the bike up well in a box and it came in just inside the smaller size option (max 1.5m long with 3m girth and up to 30kg), a frame only definitely would. £25 for the postage with £400 insurance and they collect from your door and bring a postage label so you don't even have to bother with printing. Very convenient and arrived with buyer next day.

Edit - fully tracked and you can ask for a text to be sent to you when it's delivered.

Get a kids bike box from Halfords, brace the rear triangle, wrap the tubes in bubble wrap, then wrap each tube in folded card and tape the tube boxes closed. Make sure the HT is protected, place your address, email and phone number in the box (in case it goes missing) and insist that he arranges a 24h courier. The less time it spends in the hands of the courier, the better.

I must've shipped 20-30 frames/bikes like this.

Its the receivers problem to fix in this case as they are liable for the shipment (unless he tries to say that the courier was handed an empty box or something along those lines)

Go to Wickes or wherever and get some of that pipe insulation. Wrap the frame in it wherever there is the slightest possibility of anything rubbing. If it can rub, it will rub!
Strap any loose items to the insulated frame.
DO NOT ALLOW ANYTHING TO RUB OR MOVE ABOUT!
put it in a bike box purloined from your local bike shop and protect sharp corners. pack any voids with scrunched up newspaper and await collection....
Get a receipt/signature from the courier to prove it was collected and the job's a good'un!
