As above really, i need to post a bike from sunny Manchester to New Zealand. Anyone done this, have any idea of cost, and who did you use?
Thanks in advance.
Checked it for my son who is working out in NZ for a year. About £250 was the best I could find. Do that both ways and it's a lot of cash. I have loaned him the same money to put towards buying a new or second hand bike there and he can repay me when he sells it before he comes home.
Sorry that probably doesn't help does it?
(And before anyone says something, the airline would only take it as excess baggage which at £59 a kilo was far too much)
They have bikes in NZ you know... electricity too, in the big towns.
Trade Me is the local equivalent of Ebay etc.
I'm going with Air NZ and they allow upto 30kg on bikes for free I think
Cheers Angus and Shorty - I'm looking at being there for 9 to 12 months so could stomach £500 to get one there and back, it's about £5k worth of bike (race bike and spare wheels). Was going to buy a cheap road bike for training/ commuting when I got there. Employer paying flights etc, but will check out air NZ. Thanks again.
if you are going for a year, have you looked at sea-freight?
Not yet, but will now. Still in the early planning stage, so probably be about 3 months before i go.
Edit for fat fingers.
