Hi all,

I have a 2015 Genesis Croix de Fer that I built up from a frame. I love it, it's the most comfortable bike I have ever owned.

I would very much like hydraulic brakes on it, but it's a post mount frame, and I can't seem to find anything post mount either new or old.

Chatted to the local bike shop chap today about whether a mtb post mount caliper could be mated with a road lever and he was cautious. I get that, he's a great guy and said he would want it perfect for me and wasn't sure he could guarantee that.

I have Spyres on the bike currently, and they do the job, but just wondered if anyone else had managed to find a way of getting a hydraulic brakeset onto a post mount bike like a CDF?

Shimano road and mtb calipers are interchangeable, don't worry about it.

Got Deore Post Mount Calipers on my Ultegra bike. Its fine.

Just buy the road groupset you want, pick up some MTB 2 pot calipers and swap em over, and you'll be able to sell the flat mount calipers easily too.

I've a giant conduct SL on mine. Way way better than the spyres I had before. Actually feels like I can stop now.

As others have said, buy a Shimano road or gravel groupset and fit a mtb caliper - they are interchangeable. If you don't want to do that then you can still get the BR-RS785 calipers.

Don't get the Hope RX4 calipers for your frame as you will have a nightmare trying to get / modify IS/PM adaptors trying to get them to fit (your frame / forks are IS, not post mount)

As above, Shimano still list an Ultegra post mount.
https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/ultegra-6870-di2/BR-RS785.html

I also seem to remember last year that the Madison dealer site listed STI levers and calipers separately.

And also as above I've got one of the Giant conversion sets on the way for CX season which seems a cheap and reliable solution if already got cable levers.

This. GRX with XT caliper for me. I've actually got XT post mount front and GRX flat mount rear and there's no discernible difference in power or feel.

If you're buying a GRX / Shimano road groupset and swapping in MTB calipers (which will work fine, as everyone else has said) then Deore will allow you to use the supplied hose from the road groupset. XT and upwards will need new hoses with banjo fittings at the caliper ends.

My CdF currently runs GRX810 (previously 105) levers with M6000 post-mount Deore calipers using the IS/post mount adapters that came with TRP Hy/Rd calipers in the original build.

CRC were recently selling Di2 road shifters (r785) that came with post mount calipers. I assume that’s why they were going cheap. Might be worth a look - but obv you’d have to buy all the other Di2 stuff as well.

Reckon all in (with bargain shifters and money back from selling the post mount calipers as I already had hydraulic calipers on my bike) it cost just under £700.

Sorry, belated reply on this as I flirted with a new bike...

Dug into the Genesis catalogue archive and realised that mine is a 2015 (the burnt orange) model, so can take 11 speed. Am going to go for an Apex groupset.

Cheers for all the help.
