[Closed] Possible to shorten Reverb Stealth hose at seatpost end?

I stupidly sat on my bike while the seatpost collar was a bit loose, which caused my Reverb Stealth to slip down and damage the hose right before it connects to the silver piece before the Connectamajig (damaged area indicated below). Oil has pissed out at this spot and the Reverb no longer functions.

Rather than fit a whole new hose, how simple would it be to shorten the existing hose at the seatpost end? Can the hose be unscrewed from the silver piece shown, then rescrewed into the hose once I cut off the damaged part, or would I need a new silver piece?

Stressing a bit about this as I'm off to Canada on Wednesday and would rather fix it now than mess around with it on the first morning of riding. 😕

Its a crimped connection, so nope, new hose time.

Makes it a lot more hassle to fix 😥 . Thanks for the quick answer though.

Well it sounds like I can replace the whole Connectamajig with Rockshox part number R5022010 ("Hose barb" + "Hose barb sleeve" in the service manual), so trying to track those parts down at short notice now.

Dale's in Glasgow couldn't help but the very cheery mechanic let me know the part number above. Waiting on a call back from Sprocket in Kilmarnock but might come back as a negative. Looks like Merlin have the part but would have to order today for Monday/Tuesday delivery then fit it up and bleed (hopefully OK myself).

If anyone happens to have these parts spare themselves, please do let me know.

Sounds like this isn't a commonly stocked part. A Mechanic at Sprocket Cycles (Stevie, incredibly helpful guy) talked me through the process and it sounds a pretty straightforward procedure for my experience level. So ordered the part from Merlin, should arrive tomorrow/Monday to fix it up myself and can always head to Sprocket if I somehow mess it up.

Yup, it also wins you a bit of extra frame clearance because the connectaajig's so bulky, and saves a little weight too 😉 It's fiddlier to fit than the lever end just because of the stress reliever (which you definitely want to fit, it's very weak without it)

Remember it'll also effectively shorten the hose by about 2 inches so you might have some fit issues...

"Stress reliever", eh? What's that? 😕

Yeah I know the hose will be a bit shorter, but it'll be useable for this trip at least. May replace the hose in the future if it bothers me.

Basically there's the barb, and there's a wee tube thing that you push over the hose then it threads onto the barb, so that the tiny wee fitting in the middle isn't bearing all the strain. It's not brain surgery, it's just kind of a pain in the arse to install.

(enough of a pain in the arse that I decided not to bother, the first time, then broke the barb the next time I had to bleed it, and nearly threw the whole bastard thing over the house)

Aha. The "hose barb sleeve" I believe. That's on its way with the barb itself: https://www.merlincycles.com/rockshox-reverb-hose-barb-for-post-end-58226.html.

I read through the hose replacement & bleed manual, seems pretty straightforward. A little worried that there will be air trapped deep in the line but we'll see how it goes and will take it to a workshop if I can't get a good bleed myself.

Cheers.

Just finished chopping off the Connectamajig, installing the post-end hose barb and sleeve from the link above and finished off with a rock-solid bleed; a huge weight off my mind ahead of my holiday 😀 .

Big thanks to @BoardinBob for the Reverb syringe and Stevie at Sprocket Cycles (Kilmarnock) for talking me through the process on the phone. No big deal losing the Connectamajig as the connector doesn't fit through my Transition's internal routing anyway.

Connectamajig is shit. Far too tall with minimal discernible benefits. I would swap them for a barb just because they are so tall, crap for internal routing and shit.

I'm just about to go through the same process. Recently bought a nomad cc frame and a B1 reverb with Connectamajig only to find that it doesnt fit through the internal routing of the frame.

I always disconnect and pull through from the lever end, using the supplied red barb to stop fluid loss from the hose. It very rarely needs a bleed afterwards, but on the odd occasion, will only require the lever bleeding, and as a bonus you keep the connectamajig for easy disconnection when the post needs removing for service/repair.

Yep, me too. Feeding a bit of cable outer in from the bottom then connecting it to the reverb hose with the Red Thing solves any feeding issues.

But I still get rid of the connextamajig because it's shit.
