I say almost - to me it would be a dream build, but it's not a money no object build.

Hoping to have a bit of cash this summer, so thinking of buying a Stanton Switch9er ti

Why Stanton? They are a local business and I've always liked the look of them.

So, build - thinking...

18" frame

Ohlins AM RXF 34 140/160mm

Hope Tech V4's

Hunt Proven Carbon Enduro 30mm wheelset

AXS Dropper

Drivetrain - would like to go XX AXS, but don't know if it can take/it even exists a SRAM dropout to suit. So may just buy a nice set of cranks and a standard AXS mech, or even an XX cable operated

Hope or Burgtec finishing kit, with Stanton titanium bars - all black/silver/titanium

Headset and BB, not sure

CB Mallet pedals

Brooks Swallow saddle - brown leather

Hutchinson Griffus tyres - dark tan wall

No idea on grips yet

Anyone do it much differently?

And anyone like to take a wild stab at what they think the weight might be - not got as far as a spreadsheet

I don't want to pour cold water on your idea, but the thing that would put me off about that frame (I have a steel sherpa) is the single bottle mount.

Only being able to take one bottle is a bit limiting when it's a baking 30C+ in post-environmental meltdown Cambridgeshire.

I think the latest sherpa's do actually have a second mount.

Only seen two reviews of those wheels, both broke. Not light either. Go for alu Newmen wheels, lighter, tougher, cheaper

Think that Ohlins 34 fork only goes to 130mm

Not a fan of tanwall mtb tyres, but thats up to you

Ti Stantons are lovely lovely things in the flesh.

I’d go with a BikeYoke dropper and DT Swiss rims (EX511 or XM481) on Hope hubs. Hope BB and headset. The new ODI Reflex grips I just got look good. I like the shape of Renthal bars and the FatBar Lite are the right width (for me) too.

I was a big fan of my Lyriks until they started creaking twice - the set on the Levo, not the Moxie (yet!) Those Italian forks whose name escapes me look v good and v expensive!

I wouldn’t get tan wall tyres either but I guess on a Ti frame with a brown saddle they could look good. My hardtail is very pink plus black everything else:

Moxie

EXT?
Formula?
Bright Racing shocks?

As above, I’d look elsewhere for wheels, depending on budget.

Maybe a few more Ti bits too.

EXT! With the clever fork crown design:

Needs EEWINGS cranks really.

I was underwhelmed with EXT forks. Mine are languishing in the shed barely used, while a set of coil converted Lyrik ultimate are on my bike.

I've had zero trouble with several sets of wheels built with Nextie rims, hubs DT preferably although I do love my Onyx ones despite the weight and cost.

Another vote for Bikeyoke dropper too.

If it's 30°+ I'm needing more than two bottles.

My current HT has no bottle mounts.

I use a bladder in either a back or hip pack

TThe only thing I would change is the saddle for Cambium C17 in brown.
I’ve got the Burgtec grips in tan, but a darker brown would would probably look better.

I rode the demo of this last year at Stanton (RS forks, Fortus 30 wheels) It was really really nice. Set my heart on one to swap the frame with my steel Switch9er, but the kerfuffle happened and I ended up getting an Australian equivalent frame which I’m really happy with for 2/3 of the price (plus it runs a UHD for future AXS).

With good rubber you’ll be looking at about 14kg.

I’d definitely go for a DTSwiss EX511 wheelset - you need strong on a HT.

Here’s what I ended up with:

Reeksy what's the Australian equivalent of Stanton?

Sorry, mild hijack oops. Looks like a gorgeous potential build. I'd probably go eewings if the budget allows or maybe hope cranks? Although that way lies the madness of matching colours 🙂

Yeah, can't justify that much on cranks alone.

Also considering full XTR right through

But Hope cranks are also on the list. Not getting into colour madness, albeit orange would be the only choice, but will probably stay with silver/black right through, so silver Hope cranks with a black ring

People suggesting Bikeyoke dropper - why that over AXS?

Think that Ohlins 34 fork only goes to 130mm

They do go up to 160, but I've decided against them after reading a poor review. Might just stick with what I know - Lyriks

Love this colour, but.......

Sounds like a really nice bike. My die. Would depend on use - if mostly trail I’d probably go Pike Ultimate or Fox 34 Performance Elite (I don’t like Kashima). If burlier and a bit more bling then the Formula Selva R looks great.

I like electric shifting on my road bike (di2) but I don’t want it on my mtb. I’d probably go Xtr for mech / shifter / cassette but then put X wings to cranks or X01 Carbon cranks on. Sram x sync 2 alloy chainrings are excellent. Would stick on a gold or oil slick sram XX1 chain.

Wheels I’d give those Hunt ones a miss. If you really want carbon the SC Reserve or Specialized Rovals generally seem to get good reviews. I’d probably go reserves if carbon.

In reality I’d probably get dt swiss rims - ex511 rear and xm481 front and de-sticker them. I’d definitely go for Industry 9 Hydra hubs and dt swiss competition spokes.

Everything else as you’ve specced sounds decent although it’s personal choice as always.

My Marino hardtail with similar wheels (althougb27.5”), Pike, Carbon cranks and bars, Oneup dropper, GX eagle mechanical, code r brakes and exo tyres comes in almost bang on 30lbs. My wheels / tyres will be lighter due to being smaller but I suspect my frame is heavier as Marino steel is overbuilt.

Just a vote for continental tyres being worth a look. Xynotal rear / Kryptotal front seems to be pretty capable so far.

In this case Rad Bikes.

Rad Bikes?

Might have to take a look. I'd love a Prova with a gearbox, but way expensive.

I did similar as a present to myself for my 40th. Frame is a moots Womble, XTR gear set bar xt crank. Chris king bb and headset, axs dropper, dt Swiss wheels set and hope brakes. Will upgrade the crank and wheel set but not sure what to go for, any suggestions ?

edit to add formula selva fork.

For crank, whatever you like the look of, I’ve used plenty of bling ones, buggered if I can tell the difference. Metal ones seem to stay looking nice longer than carbon ones though.

Go demo 2 identical bikes but one with deore and one with XTR (or sram equivalent) Strava it and see what difference it makes to your times. Then decide if its worth £800 to upgrade.

Personally, having seen what little difference it makes to my level of riding, I'd rather spend money on wheels and forks than drive train if there's a budget. It's also an easier pill to swallow when you rip your rear mech off and have to replace it.

As above, electric shifting for road bikes, mechanical for mtbs makes a lot of sense.

But mechanical deore doesn't make a dream bike 🤣

I've already got XTR with the exception of the XT crank which is the only bit of the drive train I'm looking to change.
