Evening.

I have a Stanton Ti Switchback......RF Aeffect Cranks......and just bought an Uberbike Oval Chainring.

If I put the CR on as you would expect then there is no clearance.......if I put it on with the logo's facing inwards it fits fine.....

Any thoughts on impending death?

Chainline will be out, but apart from that I can't see it being an issue.

Apart from the inevitable flaming ball of death of course.

I don't think so as with standard bolts on a 'normal' ring it would be roughly this line......it's because on the Uberbike CR you only use the screw part on the CR Bolt......it can only be mounted from one side......

Should you have got the Boost CR?

Just guessing?

Non boost would place the CR nearer the frame. Boost would be 3mm further outboard whether the frame is boost our not.

It's all about chainline and clearance really, boost or not.

Come people run non boost CR's on my frame. Some run Boost, as do I for clearance reasons. Jeffsy 29er.

Absolutely. Boost can be cranks or CR. 👍

unless your oval's axes are at 90degrees and parallel to the crank arm, reversing it will muck up the placement of the high and low points in your crank cycle to an extent

err, I think

Its not direct mount.....and no spacer like OneUp to adjust......

Will check chainlink tomorrow......

Scaredy has a good point regarding it messing up the timing of the Oval.

Now confusing myself.... If it's flipped over it should still be the same timing? Trying to visualise it in my head! Lol

I could be wrong, but I don't think they're symmetrically oval across the bolt holes are they? In which case flipping it would muck it up.

You are saying he has possibly gone one step beyond where it should be?

madness indeed.

madness indeed.

Or one step behind, I'm not sure! Either way, I'm concerned for his sanity

What tooth Oval....maybe there isn't clearance on the frame for  a biggy and there's a limit?Ive got a next gen Slackline and 32 round ring  looks tight.

I think this thread had become the question of our time.

Brexit is a walk in the park compared to this!

From a quick look at them, if you flip it, the timing will be out, but not by much, you might get away with it.

You say it's not a direct mount Cinch ring. If it's the 32t you've gone for, it comes with an integrated 2.5mm spacer to allow it to clear the spider. If this is the case, and the reason for it not fitting, you can't flip it. You need that 2.5mm for the chain to clear the chain ring tabs.

You'll either need to switch to a 34, or if you can, move bottom bracket spacers to push the chainset out that 2.5mm

Sounds like you're not fitting a chainguard?  Be careful riding in baggy trousers.

I sense you are all gagging for the update 🙂

Uberbike have said you can flip it.....and flipping on the diagonal axis give the same orientation.

However it also delivers a bobbins chainline.......so FS: Uberbike 32T Oval Chainring 🙂

No spacer with it......and i now have a memory that I tried with bigger 'standard' rings and the frame has limited clearance 🙂

Thanks for helping!
