We're going to spend a few days based in Porlock next week and we're planning to take in some of the Nick Cotton stuff..
We're also thinking of taking our little terrier..

What's the area like for doggies? In particular what's the area like for livestock?

Just got back from a weekend there (on motorbikes rather than bicycles this time). The pubs and cafes in Porlock are all very dog friendly and let them in. In terms of livestock, not a dog owner myself, but a lot of sheep about so I'd have though you need to be careful about letting the hound off the lead. On coastal paths etc probably less of a problem.

Plenty of woodland along the coast to the West, no livestock there

Sporadic sheep on open hills, be on your guard

Probably cows in the fields by porlock itself

Nothing on the pebble beach

Rode there over the summer. Wasn't particularly full of livestock. Horses on the moor but they were quite spread out. We did pick up a few ticks so don't forget to check. Great riding though. Best "natural" stuff I've done in ages.

If your dog tends to run around manically do also be wary of cliffs. My gran's Jack Russell fell down one there. Survived but not in great shape!

I was there at the weekend too, tearing about in a rally car - the toll road is slippy, as are the woods.

There's some good Dh/endyoooro type trails in Knowle wood.

Not much livestock on the hills from what I know of the area, just sheep and a few ponies, but pretty thinly stocked.
