Off to Wales on Saturday and have been debating whether to do this loop. Worthwhile or better to just stick to the tried and tested Coed Y Brenin or Nant Y Arian?

Also, there seems to be conflicting opinions about which direction to do it. Clockwise seemed to be the favoured option but I've read that due to all the motorbike erosion it's now better to do it anti clockwise.

Thoughts?

I rode it for the first time earlier this year. Following advice from a well-known local guide we rode it ACW (his recommendation for damp conditions). I can't see why I'd want to ride it the other way, when the two best descents become rocky hike-a-bike/slog.

Horses for courses I think. Ridden CW the descending would be more mellow.

We started at the toll bridge near Dolgellau, rode down the estuary to get on this route:

Was good.

Did it a couple of years ago or so.

It's a beautiful area but I can't recall a single element of the ride apart from the near vertical climb out of Barmouth.

Maybe I've just blocked the good bits out...

Cheers chaps. Staying in Dolgellau so it’s on the doorstep anyway. Might give it a go if the weather is half reasonable. Anti clockwise it is if so!
