You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
As per the title, I'm after one of either of the above but I'm guessing they've been discontinued never to return? What would you knowledgable type STW folk recommend as a similar bike - single speed, steel, and capable for a bit of off road?
Thanks as ever.
I might have a Pompetamine for sale towards the end of this year as I'm looking to go n-2* 😮. It's currently set up singlespeed. Drop me a PM if interested.
* I know this breaks one of the golden rules but space and some consolidation dictates otherwise.
Genesis day one single is what springs to mind off the top of my head.
Surly crosscheck? Love mine, set up single speed and do the odd bit of off road on it (but I’m a wrongun, so set up with riser bars and flats)
@whitestone - thank you, will pm in a sec.
@uselesshippy and @captain_bastard - thanks chaps, I'll look into those. I remember someone screaming past me at the Dirty Reiver on a Crosscheck, so it's certainly got form.
I'm sure Brant listed a new Pompino as one of the bikes On-one were working on for this year...
I loved my pompino. I prefer my crosscheck
Set up single speed here with alpkit flared bars.

this time with proper image

I've got a pompetamine. I like it, had it tarted up with a respray but I've ridden it a handful of times in 12 months. Would consider selling it if you are in the Newcastle area.

@oddnumber, if you’re still looking, a friend of mine is selling a new/unbuilt Crosscheck frame in black (I’d need to check the size) for not a lot...
Thanks chaps, lots of ideas there. I like the look of the Crosscheck, but they appear somewhat pricier than the Pompino/Pompetamine.
Is it possible to convert 9/10/11spd rear wheels to single speed?
I have both, the pair procured from this very forum (one from Stoner, forgot the other bloke).
Both lovely bikes, the pompino stays in the office for use there, although has ventured out for the occasional longer sojourn, Dunwich Dynamo for instance. Pompino is my winter commuter and gets a lot of miles at that time of year. I have to say I prefer the pompino for some reason, possibly I prefer SS bikes to be simple in nature.
Cross check: I have also had one of these, and used it extensively. They ride better than pomps, but they are 3x the price for the frame, so no real surprise.
If you can't find a new pomp I would suggest you just pick up a used one, they cannot be equalled for the money.

Yes, I run this setup on my pompet. You need one of these
I've got a glow in the dark Pompetamine and it's fab. Bought it a couple of years ago, it took a bit of a wait but they do come up for sale sometimes 2nd hand
I've owned all three.
The pompino was great fun. Fixed, minimalist and reliable sadly stolen
The pompetamine was good at first - gears made a change from fixed/SS, but i found it a bit dull and less efficient. Just not as much fun to ride. Gave it to my dad, but he sold it a couple of weeks ago.
I've had the cross-check set up fixed, geared and SS. v-brakes, cantis and swapped out fork for disc brake. my favourite of the three, partly cos it's so versatile.
What size are you looking for - much as I like it, it's getting no use these days. Mine's 60cm, black. Frame. fork, good wheels, a few bits and bobs.

I might be interested in this if @oddnumber isn't a lanky bugger

I'm a slightly more diminutive 5'9, so too big for me I'm afraid. Have away @moe_szyslak !
"The pompetamine was good at first... but i found it a bit dull and less efficient. Just not as much fun to ride"
I have one and tend to agree with this statement.
However, I put on 3x9 gears and use it for fully laden 4 pannier touring - In that guise it rides like a super comfortable sofa and glides along all day long.
The slot drop out is a bit of a nuisance with a derailleur, but a chaintug with drop out works fine.
