Looking for a lighter ebike wheelset
Bike: Focus sam2 6.8. travel 170 mm front and rear.

I ride flatter, fast technical singletrack, no hucks or crazy jumps, a real fun bike with all that travel front and rear.
I looked at this german site:
I wonder how light i can go.. maybe a 500 gram rim... and some DT 350 hubs, because it seem they are easy to work on, getting spares......
i looked at these:
i can see they uses race spokes, will they be strong enough?
or something else ?
probably. wheels are inherently quite strong if built half decently.
i classify rims as wear items that need occasional replacement anyway. like brake pads, grips tyres etc. only takes one badly timed hop, or inappropriately placed rock, to bend one.
how much weight do you want to save?

And you bought a 170mm FS, why?

As much as I dislike some ebikes (or ebikers) he can barrel round that flattish singletrack at 15mph, so it does actually sound quite fun.
bought it because, i rode a pivot mach 6, 155 mm travel... and really liked it, but it just needed a bit more travel... my brother bought an ebike, so i had to keep up with him!
-it is a heavy bastard, but really funny to ride... the rock shox zeb fork is brutal.
My current wheelset on the focus is a novatec, heavy, and the freehub went bust in 2 weeks.
I would focus on a bombproof freehub system and take it from there.
Speak to Pacenti. I was looking for new wheels for my ebike for ages and couldn’t decide but they gave great advice.
First thing I do is remove my wheels, cassette, discs, tyres etc and weigh them. Then work out how much weight I will save.
I'm not an ebike expert, but what benefits do you get from lighter wheels when a motor let's you go 15mph anyway? (I'm not an ebike hater just curious)
Are you struggling to lift it over gates? Get the front wheel off the ground or running out of battery on a ride?
You might save 500g but if your bike weighs 50 pounds it's neither here or there.
The wheels are specced for the bike, they will be strong for a heavy bike that's got 170mm travel. Yes you can go lighter but don't go too light. How much do you weigh with kit and water?
@jedi good point 👍
Makes the handling quicker, more nimble
Hubs will be fine, stick to the lower ratchets 18/36, the 54 wont be up to the job and needs more maintenance.
Depending on how wider tyres you are going to run, EX471 or EX511 rim on the back and you could run the same on the front or even the XM481 (bit lighter).
DT Squorx or Sapim Brass nipples and then Sapim Race or DT Competition spokes, 32 front and back.
Built by a decent wheel builder, that will be sensible weight wheelset.
Have a look on Fitwheels.eu
A few threads on here about them with very good reviews. I'd happily use them again.
Have you looked at the dt swiss hx-1501 wheelset?
I have a set on my ebike, and they seem bullet proof so far.
