Thinking I am going to need some decent shorts fell out of love with Howies as they just fall to bits and are a bit on the warm side. Will be used for a week long ride must be bibbed thanks.

https://www.morvelo.com/stealth-stormshield-bib-knickers.html ?

Bit limited in sizes at the discounted price, thinking XL may fit (been a while since I've seen you!). Extra 15% discount may also be available.

3/4s are always going to be a bit 'on the warm side'.

Found Morvelo sizing to be very generous so probably would go for a  max large size

I've always used DHB shorts, much cheaper than your budget and good enough quality for me

+1 for Rivelo in the sale on Sports Pursuit, which is running now. I have a pair of Honister bibs in medium which have something of a roadie fit. They are quite high-fronted so tend to be a cool weather pair. Very good quality feeling and comfy though.

Their Headley 3/4s are only 44 quid or so, so well worth a punt I'd have thought.

Those from Polaris are OK, do the job for me.

Personally, I too am a fan of knee warmers, paired with winter bibs if needed.

Quality of the pad is a must some of the reviews on the dhbs are very poor ,never worn knee warmers and I suffer with cold starts first thing with my 50yr old knees

I like 3/4 with long merino socks in winter, thinner socks in spring, more adaptable than longs and shorts with knee warmers. I race in knee warmers though (Gore Windstoppers are excellent). I am S/M and bought the Rivellos in a small, was very impressed at their construction quality, but S was too small, so they went to my nephew. I'll be ordering some more in a M. they compared very well with my Rapha 3/4, which I absolutely love, but are out of budget.

The FWE winter shorts / bibs from Evans are surprising good, keep knees warm in winter and have a pretty good chamois.

Always go high end but was given as a present and surprised at the quality / feel. Not sure if this applies to the whole range.

May have changed the sizing but I couldn't fathom Morvelo sizes at all, I gave up at beyond Large, for a 30" waist. I think they expect for a 30" waist, to have stick legs as well. Mine aren't, were uncomfortable to just try and get on!

Endura are OK, if you get size all right, not too hot. DHB very much worth a look.

I've found ground effect stuff to be very comfortable and durable.

very happy with castelli nanoflex, added benefit of a bit warmer too.  generally if I'm planning on wearing 3/4 it's colder and wetter than would be comfortable in summer bibs with knee warmers.  I'll use knee warmers if I'm starting early and expect it to warm up enough that I may remove them.

I think I got mine for £60

Very happy with the 3/4 Rivelos from sport pursuit.   Definitely worth a punt for the price - send 'em back if they don't fit well for you.  Wore them on your SL100 last year.

Umming and ahhing in the carpark whether to take those or the bib shorts.  Emma said "Sorry, is the question "Do I want warm, comfy knees?"" and looked at me like I was simple.

Morvelo Stormshield or Bioracer tempest 3/4s for me. Both superb. The Howies are ok, but the chamois isn't shaped for my gooch.

Castelli nanoflex were a terrible disappointment in terms of warmth and weather resistance. Not even close to the performance of the Morvelo/Bioracer kit.
