Time has come for new helmet, I have always had Giro but thought I might try something different so am looking at a Trabec race. Are they up to much or over hyped.
Tried a POC on the other week and thought it was great. Nice and snug, more protection at the back of the hat. Ventilation is a questioning thing, but will probably get one when my current helmet needs a swop.
Purple helmet?
Thinking of a Trabec for my next helmet.

Purple helmet?
Oh yes.. 😳
I like it. Suggestive. Do people ask if they can touch it?
Trabec MIPS here. Comfy and fits well. Adjustments to straps and retention not as nice to use as my Xen though...
They are ace. Poc Trabec race here £89 from Amazon
I've been using one for around three weeks now. I'm enjoying it but it is unusual!
The helmet is basically a sort of canoeing helmet adapted for cycling. Remove the brim and that's exactly what it looks like.
Build quality is by far and away the best I've come across. It stands up to the quality most expensive roadie hats and eclipses the Giro Xen ( the helmet it's replacing).
Fit is excellent, with a similar system to the Xen being used, and two weights of padding is supplied to allow fine tuning. The helmet covers more of the back and sides of the head than the Xen or a traditional road helmet, and off-road it's very stable. During climbs, I found it to be slightly warmer that a Xen, but nowhere near unbearable. Despite the solid build, it feels light in the hand and on the head.
Looks wise, the helmet seems to sit very high on the head, but in reality it looks much more planted that the Xen. I took some comparison images for another post, (bathroom: model's own):
If the helmet looks solid in the images then good! It is.
So the safety and quality is there. It comes down to the sort of look you want. I didn't want to replicate a road style helmet off-road, so this looked the most different without resorting to 'Rad' styling. Despite that, it has an extreme sports vibe.
Just got the last Trabec (at £89 and M/L anyway) off highonbikes on ebay. Can't wait to try it out on the trails. Have been bimbling in a cheapo lazer all summer and winter but have got quite a bit quicker so decided better protection needed - sounds like I made a good choice!
Trabec race here too,love it!.
Got a Trabec race also from high on bikes, seems good but i haven't worn it yet without skull cap as its freezing.
That purple color is really lovely.
Very nice. I'm also quite keen on the Catlike Leaf. Currently have a Spesh Vice which is uber comfy but when it comes to replacing it I'll be looking at Catlike
If you haven't tried a Catlike helmet before, make sure you get hands-on with one. The fit seemed a bit odd to me: The medium was too small and the large way too big. The build quality was also pretty awful on the Whispers I tried. Not a patch on the fit and finish of the POC.
