Confused beyond belief with bottom brackets for my road bike.
I ride a Planet X Pro Carbon. the BB is listed on their website as "BSA".
My cranks say FSA Gossamer 386.
What replacement BB do I need please?
thanks
Have you tried googling 'FSA gossamer bsa'? It should come straight up.
(BSA is the thread in the frame by the way)
Yes. It brings up "Mega Exo 6000" BBs. The inside of my cranks say "For BBright BB386 EVO". Hence my confusion.
Bingo
You can use a standard shimano bottom bracket so a deore one for a tenner or in my humble opinion buy a hope one and never buy another!

If you want to measure up manually to double check, use this pdf from hope
This one ?

Yes. I saw that. It's out of stock.

No. That thread refers to the MEGA EXO standard, not the BB386EVO.
BTW, I did buy a Shimano SM-BBR60 last time. The friend-of-a-friend whom I gave it to to fit said it was the wrong one and wouldn't fit.
Thanks to you both, BTW, but we're not there yet 🙂
It's more of a minefield than I realised, not fancying the ceramic one from PX?
Not for that price. There must be alternatives.
You have a problem as Planet x decided to fit the Gossamer crankset with a 30mm axle, why they specced the bike with FSA rather than Shimano is another stw argument altogether but for your piece of mind i"d spend £70 and ditch the FSA proprietary shite and buy a Shimano 105 crankset and BB - fit that and when the BB eventually dies you will have a multitude of cheap to expensive BB choices to replace it with.
If it was mine I'd take a punt and buy the pf30 version from PX for £5.99 in the hope of taking the bearings out and refitting them in the BSA shell
So it's a BSA with 30mm axle?
Get a 30mm BSA hope stainless bb?
have you had a look at that hope PDF?
Measure up, there is a bb on that sheet for near enough any crankset you can think of 😯
That Hope BB is £72. Seventy. Two. Pounds.
Thanks all - I now understand my options:
1. FSA BB - £35 - Will last about 500 miles in Yorskhire weather, just like the current one.
2. 105 Chainset - £72 from hain reaction, plus a Shimano BB (I already have one)
3. Hope BB - £72
Not much of a choice!
I won't use FSA again. Their BBs are so poor as to be unfit for purpose.
Thanks all for your help.
All this confusion, we should make another standard so we are all clear.
From reading through the press release
It looks like there is needless confusion here...
The bb386'evo' just means they made the axle shaft a bit longer to allow fitment into external BSA bb's on frames with a 68mm width ...or pressfit into frames with a wider bb shell. (or using shims/adapters with either to run 'standard' 24mm diameter axled cranksets eg shimano)
From reading PX frame spec your
bb shell is 68mm
bb shell is BSA threaded
evo crank diameter is 30mm
So there are few options including hope's, enduro, raceface (made of cheese) and a few others

You're not alone

The rotor ones should fit and I think they use enduro bearings so should last quite well

I'd be surprised if you couldn't just change the bearings in your one. Why not try popping the dust cover off one of the cups and see if the bearing seal has a 6000 series code printed on it
The BBright BB386 EVO markings on the crank is a red herring in this case
Those cranks should fit most BB shell types including BSA threaded
As I understand it the BBright BB386 EVO BB is 30mm press fit, hence the confusion
We had the same problem with a staff bike....ditched FSA threw in a shimano unit and be done next time it goes £15 tiagra bb that u no will fit first go.
Those cranks should fit most BB shell types including BSA threaded
only the 30mm ones....so hope, raceface, rotor, enduro
@walla24
The BB shell is part of the frame, and is usually either 68mm or 73mm wide (but it might not be 🙂 ), the BB bearing is the 30mm bit (in this case)
thanks timba...that's what I was trying to articulate but it was too late at night to get it out correctly 😀
a 30mm shell width would be madness!
