I'm trying to change the knackered frame bearings on my Trek Slash. I'm struggling to get them to budge using a socket/ bar combo with the handles from my BB press fit tool - it's threatening to dig into the frame surrounding the bearings before the bearings are coming out! Smacking a socket into the bearing isn't working either.

Any ideas? Could I just drill out the internals and go from there or is the outer likely to stay stuck?

Blind bearing puller with a slide hammer.

Make sure there are no bits of grit in there, apply a bit of light oil, and a basic blind bearing puller with a set of collets is a good investment.

Onzadog has it. Very cheap item from the bay. So useful.

Don't do this

Any ideas? Could I just drill out the internals and go from there or is the outer likely to stay stuck?

it's only the outer race that's stuck. I've got some blind pullers from bearing pro tools. The extractor sets from BSC tools and RSF (got from wych bearings) are good too. Bu

Yeah, don't drill out the inner. It's the best thing to grab onto. I had one fall apart and had only the outer to knock out. Had to make a special tool that was quite fiddly.

As above, blind bearing puller with sliding hammer from ebay. Had ours for quite a few years and never failed.
We did have some fun and games removing the small ones from a Norco back end but they eventually came out with an extra set of hands to hold the stays
